Never sat on a bike in my life before, except twice in my dreams i think.

So as you can imagine I found it very difficult to get the bike functioning properly. Even towards the end I wasn't that comfortable and was making mistakes with the gearing and breaking and balance. It wasn't really there tbh, but the guy felt I was safe enough so he gave the cbt to me.

I even dropped the bike onto the floor when i was removing the centre stands. Man, i sucked big time!

But after today its made me re-think about what I should get. Wanted to fork out around £1400 for a RS125 or an NSR but i really think I would damage it or not be able to look after it. I need a lot more practice on a bike. But i really want my 1st bike to have some presence and I know people on here advise on gettin a cheap first bike. But i might just use my brain over my heart here and get something cheaper.

Im lookin to do my das in about 3 months time to get a 600cc.

What would you pro's advise for the current moment in time? damn i really want the NSR or RS125 though...

Cheers for your help.

Buy a oldish CG125 that is not cosmetically perfect. Use it for a couple of months until you get your problems sorted and then sell it for what you bought it.

What he said.

CG125, cheap as chips plenty around hold value and gentle to learn on.

Pretty invincible and a great bike to learn on, a lot of bikes just a tarted up version of it.

If all it is is a step up bike its the one to get really.

If I hadn't of already done 8 months on a scootay I would have bought a cg, so I'd say go for that, or something similar.

You have hit the nail on the head......eventually, with practice it will all come together.

Once I had done my CBT, I bought an old 125 for a few hundred quid, rode it a lot, for 3 months, then did my DAS. My street cred took a bashing Rolling Eyes(actually, I didnt have any to start off with Smile ) but the 125 did its job and got me ready for my test.

I reckon you need a steady 125, to get your confidence on. Something you wont lose much money on,that wont break your heart or the bank, if it takes a few little knocks.

Check the sig. I did exactly the same thing. PM me if interested.

I bought my CG and had it from August to November and now have a KR1-s.

Laughing Well done on getting it.
I'm doing my CBT soon (waiting for my provisional) and have only ever been a pillion... but if you managed to do it and you were in a similar situation to me then I have hope Razz
Oh and getting a cheaper bike sounds like a good idea Smile Tis what I'm going to do cause I'm a klutz and it'll probably get a dropped a fair few times Razz

just get an old shed 125 to practice on for a few months. You'll be wearing a lid anyway so no one will see you!
It will come to you eventually. Before you have even ridden for a week you will be far more confident.

If you dont want a CG, then my CBT instructor was very enthusiastic about Yamaha SRs, and a friend of mine has a Suzuki GN that looks pretty good.

Hey,

Get a CG125, or even better an old CB125. Both bikes go forever and are very good at building your confidence.

There really is no point in a 'wanna-be-big-bike'. They *may* look good but u'll be spending alot of time over in the workshop forum, and less time actually practicing. Save the money for your 600.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Thanks for all your responses. This is the thing, I reckon if I ride for a week, I will be able to control it and not drop it if I'm careful. So I'm thinking get a better 125cc and it will be fine after a week or so!
