Hey all,

Done my CBT this very afternoon, felt pretty confident with everything apart from slow movement with the clutch i felt it was easier just using throttle control, felt confident on the u-turns it was all going well Very Happy

then...

we were practicing minor to major road turnings and i was in first and noticed all through the exercise the revs were at the end of the counter sooo me thinking far too much decided to stick it into second to ease the amount of throttle needed (and stop knackering the bikes engine by being at top of first all day) well i was a still a little panicky on the throttle so i completed a few turns in second then took a right...

i was just coming out of the bend when on twist of the throttle i discovered i was actually in third and went hurtling round the corner doing (for my first ride on a bike) an excessive speed of 20mph then being the n00b i am panicked and yank the front brake lever, and you all know what happens then, the bike went from underneath me!

Im fine just a little dented in the pride section and my left calf but i still want a bike for sure! Mr. Green

Hope you enjoyed it! Thumbs Up Karma

Bad luck mate.

Pass the CBT though? Did you carry on rest of the day etc?

I can still remember the funniest thins happening on my CBT. One girl locked her keys under her seat and her mum had to drive out with a spare set. And a guy was borrowing a brand new CG125 from the instructors and managed to wheely it, come off the back but still be running behind it holding onto the bars before dropping it into an oily mess in a hedge.

no i didnt pass it because the bike had its brake lever (which i have for a souvenir) and indicator casing off and the gear lever was bent so i couldnt carry on! not that i would of anyway i dont like chrashing (new word= thrashing and crashing at same time Very Happy)

Sad

You better have booked another one there an then though!

Nah i understand it might have you rattled, but gotta get back on the horse and all that! Believe me once you get out on the road even if you do crash you first and only thought will be 'how long will it take to fix my bike?'

Its a learning experiance, better in a car park with instructors about than on the road. Hoping you'll be retaking soon!

Yeah i know the feeling, dropped the CG125 on my CBT (i was pretty terrible actually). Doing the same manoeuver as you but i let the clutch out too fast and took off towards the tyre wall, so i grabbed a handful of front brake and ended up underneath the bike with a bruised knee Embarassed

I would recommend getting straight back in for your CBT and don't worry about it. Thumbs Up

Here's another CBT classic, when I did it the day started off well by me being slightly late, and another chap forgot his licence (there were 3 of us). One of them only scraped through reading a number plate. The guy without his licence has his family searching at home but after getting on for an hour gave up so he left.. then there were two.

Well the chap I was with also had a licence problem, his provisionary licence had expired or something, so he was stuck on a restricted 50cc. When it came to our two hour road ride, there was our instructor on a Super Blackbird, me on a CG500, and him on a scooter!!!! It was a joke, fair enough we had to stick to speed limits but even in 30's it took a day to get there, and as for nationals Rolling Eyes

Still, got there in the end though, just very slowly.

Did they do the first stuff in a carpark near B&Q (and the new honda place)?

Think it was style rider I saw there when I was going past the other day.
Lightening often move to the Lovelock road for manoeuvres, often wondered what they're saying to their students about our wheelies etc Smile.

Well, my CBT was overbooked. 7 people between 2 instructors.

The offroad part was ok apart from someone taking ages to do the figure of 8 as he kept looking at the front wheel and getting disorientated.

The road part was equally as funny.

Some middle aged guy just bought a brand new CG125 which was very reluctant to start.

One funny moment was at a roundabout the instructor said go straight on into Macdonald's which, I did as I was leading with this other guy following slowly.

On the roundabout I noticed that the other person went down the first exit followed by one other person and the instructor.
From an onlooker's view, it looked as it was me that went the wrong way. I got some strange looks!!!!!!

At the end of the CBT, one of the instructors took this bloke back out for an extra 15-30 mins. He did pass.

Oh yeah, DOH! Was indeed a 125, the rest of the week was on the 500.

Lots of places used to use honda H100s for the CBT before the new categories of licence came out. A lot to recommend them because they are small, light, easy to kick start and the brakes aren't 'too' good. Most people also used to go out and get a 2-stroke for their first bike so they might as well learn how to use them.

The problem was clutch control, you need to give them a good handful of revs and slip the clutch like mad in first to get them moving or the engine bogs then stalls. Trouble being that once it is rolling, the engine comes on-can very quickly and it will wheelie all by itself.

As a result, there is a whole generation of bikers out there whose first experience of riding a bike was wheelying an H100 into a chain link fence with both legs trailing behind them. You will also notice the self-same riders quickly learned the value of covering the back brake as you ride away and still do so.

Had a kind of a same experience on my cbt, i came of the bike when i was going down the hill, it was pissing down and road was wet, some f*cking how i managed to go down the gear when i was in 3rd with the revs near the red... Well back wheel locked up, then i wondered why is my bike decelerating sooooo hard and then tire slided and i was on the floor, the funniest part is that the biggest damage i have done was a couple of scratches on my mobile phone!!! That bike is a tank, you really have to try to damage it Very Happy I stood up, picked up the bike and off we go again... My instructor was a good guy and first thing that he said 'Because you came off the bike doesn't means you failed' So i was so happy that i decided to ride to the full back to CBT center Very Happy

Still luckily noone saw the mishap..Was only until the instructor looked back to see where I was did anyone know what had happened...

hehehe i did something similar....my mate was teaching me the basics on his cb400 i was riding around this kinda small car park and i put it in 2nd gear, my mate shouted to me to put it back in 1st which i hadnt done before whilst movin, so in went the clutch and down into 1st it went, but coz i was so used to changing up and only changed back down whilst at a standstill i whacked open the throttle in 1st gear and went careering towards a skip with a load of bricks stacked around it.....you can guess the rest. hope you enjoyed.

Ahh, the good ol' H100's. I cut my Biking teeth on one of those things, watched a few get dropped on the playground, go into the fence, run off onto the grass when overshooting a U-Turn (myself included) and generally get put through the mill.

Mind you, on the CBT road section I got my first Nod from a sportsbike rider and ragged the arse off the bike on the NSL roads whilst the instructor followed on his Fireblade...

Fun little bikes that can be stripped and chucked back together in minutes.

K.

When doing my 1-to-1 DA on a 500cc the instructor and I stopped at a station to fill up, went to push the bike forward to park so that the cars behind could use the pump, and I made the mistake of being on the outside of ths turning circle (standing not sitting). The heavy bike started to go, I wasn't able to hold it, and I dropped it in front of about 20 people. Broke a foot peg Smile
