It finally happened , got pulled last night on the bike by the pigs now i have 3 points and a £60 fine for overtaking a bus that was doing 20-25ish just after a crossing at 8.30pm.

Must have been a slow day for them not a good turn over for the night.

Undercover patrol car sat at the crossing waiting, followed me all the way to our lass's house i hover took a car on the way there when i had gotten out of town wasnt a built up area was safe to do so had lots of time to make the manuvoure, i thought someone was trying to find out where the bike was kept so i took the long way round the suddenly the lights came on "shit".

He was going to get me for driving with out due care and attention and said if they went to court i 'd get a ban or said he'd do me a favour and give me 3 points and a fine.

What a night girlfriend nearly dumped me to so my sunday was an all round pretty crap one. Thumbs Down

I presume this was on zig-zag markings?

Hey at least he cut you some slack. You'd have got £60 and 3 points for even just PARKING on the zig-zags so for overtaking a bus on them you got away pretty lightly.

Ah well, one to chalk up to experience.

I know its going on as an experience a lesson lernt, do not over-take stuff when:

A. in and about town
B.on a sunday as they tend to sit around tring to catch people more then any other day.

Was it a railway crossing or pedestrian crossing?
If railway then they're usually double white lines before and after.
If so then IMO probably got you for going over them.

If pedestrian then I'm confused as I know you can't overtake/filter past the first veicle on the approach but thought it was ok to overtake on zigzags after the crossing.

I presume they haven't just done you for simply overtaking a bus?

You said it was just after a crossing, by this I assumed you overtook on the zig-zag markings?

Oh, and assuming you were referring to the expletive and not something a beaver builds, it's "DAMN" not "DAM". Wink

Well, sorry to say but you should have known better.

You overtake on zig-zags and they'll do you. Hell you STOP on them when your way ahead is clear and they'll do you. It's an absolute offence, there's no oppinion involved on the part of the copper, if you did it, you broke the law.

I thought everyone was aware of this, ah well, you know now.

Where? Can you expand on this?
Only found this
Highway Code wrote:
167: You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines. You MUST NOT overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians.
Laws ZPPPCRGD regs 18, 20 & 24, RTRA sect 25(5) & TSRGD reg 10, 27 & 28

Note only says overtake lead vehicle. Does not say can't overtake on approach or after the crossing.

Would appreciate clarification Thumbs Up

Not everyone expects a patrol car to be hiding round the corner. Its an offence to speed but we all do it. Im sure he will be more awhere in the future you live and learn. I have just leart to be espesually careful at night.

No worries mate.
The Traffic Signs, Regulations and General Directions 2002. Statuatory Instrument 2002 No. 3113. States:
28. - (1) Without prejudice to regulation 27, a zig-zag line shall convey the requirement that, whilst any motor vehicle (in this regulation called "the approaching vehicle") or any part of it is within the limits of a controlled area and is proceeding towards the signal-controlled crossing facility to which the controlled area relates, the driver of the vehicle shall not cause it or any part of it -

(a) to pass ahead of the foremost part of any other motor vehicle proceeding in the same direction; or

(b) to pass ahead of the foremost part of a vehicle which is stationary for the purpose of complying with the indication given by a traffic light signal for controlling vehicular traffic.

I think part a) is the one you want.

stinkwheel, read the wording, and for further clarification I asked a driving instructor this question. Overtaking before the crossing on the zig-zags = illegal, overtaking after the crossing = legal

the words to watch out for in above text are "approaching vehicle" and "proceeding towards".

AFAIK the traffic police will regularly threaten with DWDCOA as a method of bullying you into accepting the points and fine.

You're within your rights to ask for any footage of your driving, and in all honesty if they don't have any it won't stand up in court in the slightest.

I reckon a lot of traffic convictions are only held due to ignorance, and once you've signed the form you've admitted guilt.

My 20p, shout at me if I'm wrong.

A...Why not? As long as its legal and safe to do so there would be no problem at all.

B...Thats because there are alot more Numpties around on Sundays that do silly things. Wink They are called Sunday drivers.

i know but since the cruising scene that normally take place on a sunday oinkers tend to be out more on a sunday night to catch people and they also tend to stay hanging around towns too i.e your more likly to get caught speeding or overtaking in a town then you are if you in the middle of nowhere say like lak district or some where like that. i'll just have to be more carefull round towns and not over take or even go slightly above the speed limit

Sunday drivers are a different breed to weekday drivers. Highly unpredictable.

Kenny, lets forget about the points as they count for nothing unles you're the type to let it 'get you down'. Forget about the £60 'stupid riding' tax.

So what have you learned? Have you learned to ride within the law? Or have you learned to watch out for and hate the police?
