Riding home from work today, i realised, as the wind was thrashing my legs that i need something other than just office apparel when riding down the bypass.

until recently i only nipped round the corner, 60 seconds and i was as work, the site has now moved and i travel further.

I was thinking, for now, while the weather is not too bad, i could settle for a pair of kevlar jeans, whack them over my office crap and ill be sorted, but i'm not sure.

What protection do you all use to and from work and or weekends? What do you think is good and bad about it, water proofing, wind proofing etc.

I dont fancy leather because i am a bit on the tall and skinny side and look like a bit of a gimp. Id rather have man made. IMHO it looks better anyway.

I use to have a shell tech kit quite light and airy with protection pads in all the right places.

Now ive got a Blue and white full leathers to match my bike and to be honest mate i wouldnt change them. My fella got a two piece "alpine stars" leathers and i must admit he does look good in them!.

I put a pair of kevlar type waterproof armoured trousers on top of my work trousers. I have to confess to putting jeans on top of my work trousers in the really hot weather though!

You can get a textile one piece suit taht doesn't require you to take boots off. It has zips that come up the legs, so it's pretty quick to get on and off.

If you want serious protection Leathers are the only way, but are too much hassle for work, as you should really get some that are tight fitting.

www.hoodjeans.com

i got my kevlar jeans there - i've had 3 low speed (30mph and below) spills in them, they keep my skin together nicely. Go fine over suit trousers, but are quite heavy - about 3x the weight of a normal pair of jeans, and quite warm as well, being a double thickness. Denim on the outside, kevlar on the inside.

You can have CE knee pads, but its not comfy with them in.

I've done about 15,000 miles in mine at a rough guess. Wore my way through the zip, so i cut that out and sewed in a button fly. I get through zips on all jeans though.

So.. yeh, good buy if you dont want leathers.

How much of a gimp will you look if you fall off while wearing 'office clothes' and get found in a ditch by an old lady with your neck snapped in three? Wink

My point? I'd rather look a bit of a twat than risk serious injury!

I came home from work in just jeans and leather jacket once and i came off, The jacket moved up and i had gravel rash from my heel to my ass to just under my ribcage (i was in pain for months).

After everything was back to normal i bought a Gericke Hard Edge 1 piece suit for £299 and it has been brilliant. I came off my mito at exactly 100mph after it seized and i got away with no injuries whatsoever or much damage to my suit and it is still going strong. All gericke stuff is on par with alpinestars only it's a little bit heavier and for the price they are fantastic.

I carry my trousers and trainers in a rucksack when i go to work.

You see all these twats about in just a shirt and jeans on and they look stupid. With leathers at least you look like a biker and you never look silly on a bike with leathers.

After 3 years i am now going to get another set to match my SB6r.

Mcjam - The wind doesn't really get through them, the kevlar is a tight weave.

Have you actually got a SB6R now? Can I have a go? /me drools.

Yeah anyway, I say buy leather and carry your clothes to work. I usually leave my shoes at work and so I just have to take my jeans with me, which can usually fit into a bum bag type thing. Also if you buy a leather 1 or 2 piece you would have something suitable for when you go for that quick thrash/kneedown session. You could always buy a waterproof over suit for the really poor weather, but I have never really needed one as my leather do quite a good job of resisting rain (unless its really torrential and it seeps through the Kevlar stretch panels).

I've got a Rukka jacket and trousers. very tough. waterproof, windproof and breathable. make a great sound when you're sliding too Rolling Eyes
i was looking at those kevlar jeans in M&P, do they do a trouser-type that could be worn at work?

i generally wear suit type trousers (i know, i know!) and my rukka jacket to work-and plastic over-trousers if it's wet.

Leathers all the way baby! got some textiles for the winter though, the bottoms zip all the way up the legs so they're really easy to don and doff over work clothes.

Just do what I do, wear your leathers at work. Very Happy

Ok so thats not practical most of the time, I have taken my trousers and shoes in a back pack to work on a number of occasions.

As you can see from above there is a lot of option to whats out there, you could get full leathers (which are always great on a bike or should I say if the unthinkable happens) or you could go for kevlar type over trousers or jeans. It all comes down to how you want to play the game mate.

If getting changed at work from leathers isn't an issue then get leathers as then you'll still be able to go out for your weekend blast in them. Otherwise look at what you can get in the way of over trousers etc.

Just go to a few bike shops etc round your way mate and have a look at all the stuff they have - there is a hugh choice and once you have decided on what you want then you start looking for it cheaply on the net and at shows etc. Smile

Happy hunting!

Generally wear leather trouser (Belstaff) and a textile jacket (also Belstaff), but I also have a leather jacket, my Joe Rocket Pheonix jacket (great for summer) and a one piece leather.
