Puncture help !

Right having been for a ride on monday, I have now descoverd we have a puncture ! its a thorn in the tyre now i have pulled it out and its gone flat , so i am going to take the tyre off and fix the tube , will mountain bike tube patches work on it or do i need a special one or even a new tube
?

Think you will have trouble fixing the tube as most bikes dont have tubes, the tyres are the same as a car and are tubeless......

I would personally get one designed for motorcycle tubes as I wouldn't be sure how strong a normal pushbike repair kit would be. It may not cope with the heat build up of the tube.

Better safe than sorry.

although.. i have patched a tube on my old 125 using cycle patching.. and its been sat in the shed for a good 6 month and its still not gone down, was also ridden for half a year at least on that same tube..


Try it, you cant loose much, if not, new tubes are about 6 quid?

Considering a new tube is only about a fiver it's hardly worth fixing the old one.

Is it worth £6 for a potential "massive" tyre failure???

If they cost £6, why not buy another?? You already have a failure in a uniform structure, repair will not make the structure stronger?!??

im guessing hes talking about his off roader? not sure on its engine size, but i doubt it will be fatal.

it wouldnt just go, it would just go down slowly, it isnt difficult to control

But yeah, safest bet is to get a new tube

It could go down slowly, but as there is already a "tear" it could fail massively and go down very very quickly!!

I think the best decision would be a new tube!!!

its not the off roader its the xs (road bike) i was not going to get a new tube because they are £20 for the off roader so thought they would be about the same for the xs ? but if they are only a fiver then ill get a new one .

£20 is a lot compared to lets say 20p worth of patches and glue

Jamie, if you want to patch it up, you're entitled to do so.

People have given their opinion (which I would agree with) that you'd be better replacing the tube.

If you know what you're going to do anyway, seeking approval on here but being stubborn when opinions are not what you want to hear is a bit of a waste of time.

Not having a go, just seems like a pointless thread if you've already made your mind up.

find me a puncture repair kit for 20p.....

Just get a new tube it will save endless hassle of the patch not sticking/ripping/not sealing etc etc.
