Nipped into Tesco on the way home after work.
Now, at the door they have employed a security guard to stop the teenage kids.
They used to go around the store in groups, robbing, now they are only allowed in 1 at a time. 1 goes in, the rest of them wait until the first kid comes out and then he lets another in, etc...

If you are with a PARENT then you can go inside, as you are with a responsible adult.

Anyway... so walking around, I hear shouting. There, in the middle of an aisle were a family of 3, Mother (about 40), I presume her Daughter (about 17), and a little boy (about 3). Don't know if the kid was the kids kid or the mums kid.
The security guard was saying to the 17yr old "I SAW you do it. I saw you. It doesn't matter what you said.. you tried to..."
So transpires she was attempting to nick something.
The Mother said something, a convo ensued and eventually the security guard left. Probably confident that the parent would have all under control.

THEN, the most shocking part I thought, they all walked off into the fruit and veg section. I carried on shopping as all excitement was over.
I heard shouting again, and the Mother was smacking the little lads legs/bum, whilst her and the Daughter were trying to wrestle FRUIT from under his jacket that he had nicked!!!! Shocked
I mean... Neutral Is this the state of the bluddy country?

Pretty soon our tesco will be banning all people under 21!

Yep, and if you knew half the total value of stuff knicked over Crimbo from supermarkets, you'd probably have a coronary! Laughing

I was "STOP" trained at Sainsbury's and some of the scariest times of my life where to do with shoplifters.

You need to get into some dodgier pubs mate.

Lifters (as said) are all either kids or pansies. To be fair i never gave a shit about theft (used to do enough myself when i worked at tesco... like all good employees) but all you do is ask them if they want any help. Sends all but the hardened ones scarpering.

How does having a knife put against your throat sound?? Or being half strangled?

First was for 2 bottles of whiskey and the second was a DVD grab and run.

Granted those were the worst two, but I've also been driven at and punched in the face a couple of times Thumbs Up

Think they would qualify as pretty nasty.

I WAS thinking that!!
They weren't actually buying any fruit and it crossed my mind that he only wanted an apple

Or he could have gone round the corner and tried to nick a dvd Wink
Obviously a learnt behaviour from his mum/sister/thing

Shop shifters are desperate most of the time and will often stop at nothing to escape.
Some are kids, some are professional, some are violent and some are not. Its a mixed bag with no hard and fast rules.
From 1994 - 1998 I was on the security team in Debenhams in Manchester and had countless run-ins with gangs of arseheads, hookers, smackheads, Big Issue vendors etc.
Had one big incident where i went through a plate glass door and got my hand skewered with a shard of glass, I'd say it was pretty dangerous working with Lifters.

Res,
All your inmates are yoofs, all with a soap on a rope, trainee scallies.....wait until you find one who realllllly reallllly doesn't wanna be there anymore and he tries to eat you to escape Laughing

Like I say, the times I spent stopping (or attempting to stop) shoplifters were possibly the scariest times of my life.

The kids were quite funny though. If I had a quid for everytime I heard "....but I didn't do anything" from a spotty nerk...... Laughing

Some of the more interesting times were spent on ATM security! Watching out for skimming devices etc....Now THAT was scary!! Shocked

We had russian/lithuanian guys constantly hitting our atm's. It was guarunteed you'd get at least 2 a week. It was my job for about a year, to walk outside three times an hour to check the atm's. If there was something on there, it was my job to rip it off and leg it back inside!!

That's when I got strangled, the bloke was walking behind me to reclaim his device as I took it off....Scary shite! I handed it over, he punched me in the face and ran off! Laughing

I worked as a Security Manager at ASDA for twenty years, the antics the shoplifters got up to would amaze you. I've had everything from knives, used needles, knuckle dusters, cars, fire arms, baseball bats, etc used as weapons against me. These numpties can be as violent as hell when they are being stopped and detained but when the boys in blue come they become all meek and quiet. some of the junkies have the strength of ten men when they are on the gear. some of them are what you could call.............. unclean and need rubber glove treatment. Over the years I must have lost a few pints of blood, and taken a few too. The violence shown to loss prevention staff goes way beyond the actual crime. People have been known to have been killed stopping shoplifters, mind you I know of a few shoplifters who have died being detained too.
And as for the thieving staff in some of the stores, well I can't think of a word or phrase that can capture my true feelings on how much I dislike them.

We had a spate of DVD thefts made by staff, and as a punishment they stopped everyone's christmas bonus.

When they eventually caught the three doing it they were lucky to get out the store alive! Evil or Very Mad

Weedy's way is about the only way i know how to stop it.

But that requires a bonus first. Most companies (like tesco) cant afford to give everyone a bonus (or it would lump the profits).

Besides, part and parcel of shopwork (in big chain supermarkets) as its so impersonal and so little respect from middle management why not.

At ASDA colleagues do get a bonus, it is based on company profit targets being met and store targets being met. as for the middle management .. most at ASDA have come from the shop floor and still work on the shop floor with the colleagues. Respect is earned from both sides. If the company and store do not reach the targets because of stockloss then ALL including the managers do without the bonus. Theft is theft, some colleagues use the money towards holidays, school uniforms or other such things so you might aswell go to their homes and steal from them. Shoplifting affects everyone, it puts about £260 extra on your every day bills every year. Most thieves have committed about 40-50 thefts before they are caught. Now that lad who stole that motorbike started off by stealing from a shop and things just got bigger. So if you think stealing from a company is ok then you must think that the person stealing your bike is ok too. I don't.

Not only evident in shop work, it happens (in varying forms) in every industry.

"Tealeafing" is rife within the Ambulance Service.

If it's not bolted down...

They steal money out my bank account every month for Poll Tax and I get Kcuf all for it. Twisted Evil
