I have to ask, how much are you/did you pay?
I'm a pretty competent rider IMO (CBT for two years, got another now) - to the level that I wasn't asked to ride at the front for my last CBT. I Rode solidly through my first two years, day in day out whatever the weather (snow and ice, the lot). Whilst I really like the place where I did my CBT, they were after over £600 to get me through my DAS. Now is it just me or is that a shitload of cash?

Ps; I know people will be saying - "competent rider my arse, only got a CBT bla bla, only riding two years bla bla" but staying OT would be appreciated Wink

500-600 quid seems about right for DAS, depending where in the country you are.

It seems shitloads, but I think that insuring you on a 500 with a provisional licence might be a factor that bumps the cost up? And I think DAS instructors need extra training?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

~£500 for the 5 day DAS at my local M/C school, but the 5 day course is usually for complete novices with no experience (that was me)

They did a free assessment followed by their recommendation for a 3, 4 and 5 day course depending on experience

Fair d. I really wasn't thinking that the people were trying to shaft me tbh, like I say, they seem decent. To be fair also, they said they'd pay for retests and stuff too. Just wondered if there was any way to do it cheaper bar just doing it on my own.
Oh, this was for 3 days and test (the shortest course they offer).

edit; Forgot to say - I've moved to Manchester (South) so can anyone point me in the direction of a good school?

I paid £565 I think when I did my 4 day DAS, that included all bike hire and test.

It is the best £600 odd quid that I have spent in years Thumbs Up

Stop being a chicken and just go for it, I promise you, you wont look back when you are astride a throbbing big bike. I couldn't stop smiling the 1st time I rode the Yamaha SR, had face ache when sitting on the ER5 and almost passed out with glee and excitement when on the old MILF.

Had my CBT and 4 months of experience under my belt, so I took a 3 day DAS for £300 inc bike hire and test fee.

If you're Manchester area you could consider West Pennine, based in Blackburn. They're a reasonable bunch and I enjoyed the time with them. And they're fairly cheap, and some may say you get what you pay for, but I passed first time with no minors so can't fault em.

Mine is £609 5 day course and a Guaranteed pass with Roadrunners Leeds.

Did CBT in October, not ridden until I started DAS 2 days ago. When I did CBT, the instructor said I'd pass with a 4 day course but, as I'm not able to practice on my own I booked 5 days.

I can't help thinking that the last day is a bit of a rip. I think it should be a whole DAS day, and the test the day after with a 2 hour lesson before hand.

My 5 day course was £580. See if you can get some recommendations for a good trainer, though. I'd rather chose someone on how well they are going to teach me, rather than how much they are going to charge.

If you're competent, a 3 day course might be better for you. 2 and a half days should be more than enough to get you used to riding the bigger bikes and get the U-turns etc. sussed.

I agree - i went on word of mouth for the school i used for the CBT (plus the fact that they would have me back for free if needed). I went back with them for the DAS training (they were all brilliant except for one guy that worked there Thumbs Down )

I think i coughed up 520 big squids for my 4 day DAS - this included test and bike hire - i had the lessons on a 500 spread over a couple of months and practiced on my 125 inbetween.
I'm sure price will vary from city to city - i'm happy with what i paid as they taught me well and i passed 1st time. Very Happy

Are you all including the cost of the CBT in these prices?

My CBT was £99
I rode around on a 125 for a few months, then did DAS

2 days lessons and test fee £375, so cost me about £475 in total from start to finish.

If you are confident enough, talk to the schools around you! They might let you off with one day DAS. That should cost in the region of ~£250-300!
On another note, have you thought about just renting the bike and going for test? Thumbs Up

I rode a 125 on cbt for 18 months and then did the theory test, after that i went to a local riding school and told them i would like one day on a 500 so i can feel what the power and wait is like under instruction and would then like to do my test. As i already had road experience they agreed and charged me £250 which included the test. Passed.

If you are going to do your direct access then may I suggest that you don't skimp on the number of days training that you need or it could turn out to be a false economy. I'm not saying you should do a whole five day course etc, but even though you consider yourself to be a good rider, you need to learn how to pass the test, ie to make sure that you are doing everything as you should. Being able to ride a bike and being able to pass the test aren't always the same thing. Back to my point - if you don't give yourself enough days for proper training, you may end up failing and it will cost you more in the long term than what an extra days training would have cost. Thumbs Up
