Right just a quick question here, just wondering how many real ale drinkers are on BCF?

Also anyone a member of CAMRA like me? Smile

Erm thats a common misconception, there are quite alot of younger people drinking real ale these days, those of us who don't drink that horse piss called lager.

How was my comment abusive? Laughing

Some people need to lighten up. Maybe you've been spending too much time with bearded old codgers drinking warm piss?

I'm not a bearded old codger, but am definitely a real ale drinker. Not a member of Camra either, but have a been a visitor to Frocester and Cardiff's Beer festivals most years for about the last 10 to 12 years or so.

Real Ale as in:
CAMRA wrote:
What makes real ale ‘real’?

Real ale is a natural product brewed using traditional ingredients and left to mature in the cask (container) from which it is served in the pub through a process called secondary fermentation. It is this process which makes real ale unique amongst beers and develops the wonderful tastes and aromas which processed beers can never provide.

And I see Real Ale as in sometimes the beers you get in Casks that are in bottles that are not secondary conditioned, like Jennings Ales which are pasteurised etc. Not your piss like lager and smooth flow bitter crap.

So do Adnams and hobgoblin count lol?
I have no idea if they are brewed using traditional ingredients and left to mature in the cask.

Yes they count. Wychwood brew Hobgoblin but the bottle is filter and pasteurised. And Adnams count too, though never been a fan of them!

I think they throw in free CAMRA membership when you join the IAM. Seeing as you already have the beard and cardie, it's a shame to waste it, apparently.

Still, beer snobs, bike snobs - what's the difference?

Yep Thumbs Up
Used to drink lager but over time I started drinking more and more real ales. Guess I have grown old and beardy Laughing

On wednesday nights a few of us go the pub and there's usually a good selection of around 12 pumps on in the local.

If I absolutely MUST have a 'bleeding out of my ears, brain spinning head full of chemicals' hangover then it's obviously back to lager and 10 pints of staropramen for the win

I've started drinking "real ale" recently when at home or having a few in a pub but lager still has its place on nights out and the like.

I'm not a member of camra and I don't feel the need to go round being a drinks snob to people either, stop being a tit Craig, drinking real ale doesn't make you special, especillay with your bullshit attitude that comes with it. Rolling Eyes

Dont drink lager, cant drink cider and dont drink spirits, its ale-type or nothing now. And really it needs to be off a proper tap, not the pressurised shit. I thought about joining CAMRA, i still might, not really sure i can afford it right now.

Canterbury has lots of good pubs about, i like Adnams (i think it is broadside, cant remember), Flowers, a local beer called Whitstable IPA. More common stuff like Greene King IPA, Bass, Shepherd Neame beers is fine too.

I am 20 and a student, but then again people say i am a grumpy fuck too so maybe i fit the stereotype after all.

That would be me then, i love it Laughing i just got into drinking it... and not stopped.
Not a member of CAMRA (parents are -mainly for a evening of free drinking when they joined) but i have not been tempted to join... too much just to just drink beer Rolling Eyes
I do get the odd look from bar maids/men when i order a pint of what ever i chose but it just makes me laugh to see the shock on their face sometimes (provides a talking point at least! Wink)

I don't see the need for a campaign for it as long as I keep buying it. If I'm out I'll drink whatever I feel like, and I feel that the Camra bunch do a great injustice to Stella, Staropramen, Bitburger and the like, cos as long as they're kept well they're as good a drink as any. Having said that I'll happily drink Spitfire, Tanglefoot, Golden Glory, IPA, Truimph, Skullsplitter, Hobgoblin, Speckled Hen......

.... Ah fuck it, I'll drink owt. Embarassed

Actually CAMRA don't discourage beers like Budvar, Bitburger and Czech beers, as there actually brewed in the traditional with traditional ingredients, like hops, malt, yeast and sugar, its just when you start adding chemicals like Caramel, E numbers and other crap which is in most mass produced stack it high sell it cheap british lager and beers.

And at the last few CAMRA Ale festivals I've been to they've had a foreign bar serving Warsteiner and others, Warsteiner being my particular favourite.
