 |
|
Hi,
I want a new lid to replace the Nitro, which looks good, but it needs replacing. I'm not big into spending £300 on a single lid, yes I value my head, but that is for another conversation.
So yeah, criteria:
* Must be comfy
* Dark or as black as possible, can have blue on it
* Must look good
* Relatively quiet
* Cheap as possible
Wouldn't mind one with dark visor capabilities, and it must be a semi good make. I am willing to spend upto £150, but obviously the cheaper the better!
I don't ask much eh
Cheers for any help. |

Had i not got my XR1000, i would have probably ended up with the X-lite X-801 in Toni Elias colours because they are very light and have a comparitively small shell size. My shoei's weight is quoted at 1240g+/-10g on the back. X-lites are about that sort of weight. How about an AGV ti-tech? X-lite coincidentally are made my Nolan.
Although many people still maintain that the performance of the shoei is better than AGV. One gripe about the shoei however is that only the cheekpads are removable. The head-liner cannot be removed so it will have to smell of your scalp, or in my case, knob cheese . I didn't find out until i got the lid that this was the case . Still a good lid so don't get you down. I've heard many people say good things about the Raid II, but my money's on the XR Thou.
Besides, when you think of it this way, at my uni freshers fair, almost all the lids on display were shoei XR1000's belonging to 5 club members so it says a lot about the reputation of the lid. - Get one in diablo colours because they are ace. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Don't worry about removable lining, I wash my hair and even if I didn't I almost always wear a balaclava anyway, so that is not an issue. I will keep the recommendations in mind, quick question, any brands and subsequent makes I should steer clear of?
I'm strangely taken by this lid, though I would never get it, its the kind of shape I like. Cheers for the recommendation 'Rambo'.

I've had my OGK Aeroblade II for a couple of months now and I've found it to be pretty decent. The vent system works pretty well in the heat, although the wind noise can get a bit mad when going 70+ (so I've been told)
I got mine for £150. Bog standard helmet does the job you hate ____________________ Kawasaki Z1000 '05

I know Liquorice (Matt) has a shar RSF-2 and swears by it. His looks pretty nice and got his for 200. here. Have a good ganders about and actually get some fitted to your head so that you don't end up buying the wrong shaped lid.
I'd stay away from KBC, they're heavy and buffet your head. Not too sure about the new ones, but my KBC AR1 was like a bloody goldfish bowl. HJC are a good budget make, but for the price of their top range carbon QF/AC12 lid, it's shoei XR1000 money. I know which one i'd rather have - God i sound very very biased here! ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

my dad has recently bought a caberg one with a double visor and he loves it. The inner visor is like a fighter pilots one, like a pair of sunglasses which he can slide down at will. Looks the business, the vents are good and it was about 100 quid i think.
I've got a shark rsv200? something like that, its comfy, is quite loud, but then i wear earplugs most of the time so whenever i forget them it seems mega loud. vents are ok and after 2 years or so it is still working fine. ____________________ LOOK AT DAT M8 WELL LUSH A PARROT INT IT |

Hi,
Cheers guys its much obliged.
I have been looking around and I like the look of this:
Click
Which I then found cheaper here:
Quite the saving.
I quite want the Shoei, but it is a little over what I want to spend at the moment, I did sample one at Squires one time and I remember it to be high quality and very light.
There is also a few Shark ones that I like too, they look to be a good reputable make and unusually popular judging from the replies!
The Caberg one you mentioned quik_d is a nice lid but not suited to my purpose, very nice design though.
Titz I do quite like the RSF-2, if he could post with his thoughts it would be appreciated too.
Thoughts?
P.S There is no such thing as a RSV200
And I also quite like these:
Nice design, not sure about the snake with claws and also it is a race rep which renders it redundant in a few years.
This is nice and saves about £30. |

I be hearing (reading) my name mentioned? haha
Yeh, the shark you were looking at is the S800, i always had S500 and really liked them and the S800 is the next one up. So should be pretty good, however I would suggest going to a shop to try the lid on first make sure it fits well.
If your interested in spending £200 the RSF2i is good, its very comfortable and light, with very little buffeting at speed unless you have a pillion onboard (as Titz will testify, when we got up to speed the turbulence round the back made my head wobble all over the place)
But if your doing solo riding then it's great, although I do sometimes get a bit of a whistle through one of the vents. Other than that it's really quiet, really comfy and looks ace.
On the visor changing side it's got the Shark patented "onepush" system, which I have always loved as it takes about 20 seconds to change the visor.
I always liked the dark lids too, but I went for the Axium Red and even though theres a lot of white it looks sweet! ____________________ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport

Joe,
There's nothing to say that the AC11 ain't a good lid. I think it won an old RIDE test on helmets and for that price, it's a steal! I had the AC10 3 years ago and that was a pretty good lid until the liner wore out and made it uncomfortable for my noggin.
I believe Wave had a red AC11. They are pretty light and HJC are amongst the best middle ground lids, constantly winning tests. Visor mechanism is a bit fiddly but good nonetheless. Try one at Hein Gericke for size and buy it off that site. They were about 200-230 new. HJC over KBC/Nitro anyday. If you can find a HJC FG14, as in
https://www.hein-gericke.com/uk/images//prodpics/hjcfg14red.jpg they're also good
https://www.mickbyrne.com/_shop/catalog/images/imagecache/ar1comet.jpg Stay away from that! Heavy and buffets at motorway speeds. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1
