Fellow Bikers!

Finally, i managed to get a decent (ish) bike for 750, very fine bike indeed, an Er500 Special, as it was, from Ebay.

HOWEVER... upon checking on insurance/internet etc etc...no such thing!

What on earth is going on? Is it real? Is it fake?

Please, if possible, shed some light for me. Its a fantastic runner, and it looks completely fine, but im a bit worried...

Thanks!!

A quick google'ing reveals that such bike does exist. I cant actually find any info on how it differs to a standard ER5 though.

If there are any differences, bar a little sticker then I'd expect them to be nothing more than purely cosmetic.

It will just be insured as a Kawasaki ER5.

Edit: Alot of the sites come up in Dutch so you may have a Dutch/European import. Go down to your local Kawasaki dealer and asm them. Or phone up Kawasaki UK if you want to know specific info.

Just to latch on to the ER5 thread...

Attached is a pic of my new one, I was wondering where I can get a fairing like the one in the pic above, and any idea how much it would cost?

Have been on the motorway a few times and the noise and wind is really overpowering.

Hey fellow essex bikers.

Yeah, just insure it as an ER-5. Looks like someone's bodged on a CB500 fairing or similar.

Although I'm sure the ER-5 didn't have twin leading disks?! I notice something new about that bike everytime I look at it.

May be worth declaring the mods to the insurer, as I'm sure they could wriggle out of a claim if you claim that's an ER-5.

Depends how likely you think you are to crash. (Knowing your previous record Rolling Eyes )

hey gaz, its sonofabikers not mine!

Im not sure where the front fairing came from, the whole front end is from a different bike, but cant be a bad thing to have better front disks?

My bike is doing much better thanks to three cans of black spraypaint Twisted Evil

A 'special' is simply a generic term applied to a modified/customized bike. Years ago, before the japs discovered how to make a bike go around corners, people used to put jap running gear into brit chassis - the results were called 'Specials', never heard of a Spondon Special?
In terms of insurance, not declaring the modifications may result in your insurance not paying out if they discover it post-accident etc.
