Hi Phil, and welcome to BCF.
My first "big bike" was a GS500, but i have also ridden CB500's
the 500cc class in general is a good place to start, enough power to get you into and out of trouble.
First things first, i would advise against spending the full 2k on the bike, you will most likely only keep it for a year... (No matter what you think now, you WILL get bored of the power of a 500 after 4-6 months, saying that, even though i was bored after 6 months, i would still ride it everyday for fun, and it still put a smile on my face)
I had a fair few problems with my GS, but then i only paid £250 for it...
CB500's are pretty bulletproof... 100 million couriers cant be wrong ... parts are abundant and relatively cheap, whichever 500 you buy get Bridgestone BT-45 tyres for it
GS500: Cheap one
CB500: Reliable
GPZ500: Sportier (with a supposed top end kick past 7k revs)
Look to spend between £800-1400, look after it and you will likely get your money back after the year, and have a fair few stories to tell... |
