Didnt want to do this but its about a new bike

First of all sorry about posting another 'what bike' thread but this ones got a bit of a difference.

Im in the market (or I thought I was) for a 05/06 636. Im not fussy about which colour. I would prefer it to be still within warranty and have an alarm. Other than that im easy. Ive got about 4600 at the most to play with so there should be plenty of options. Trouble is there doesnt seem to be.

I live in Cumbria, the local dealers are robbers and can't be trusted and even then theres not much choice. Main dealers are few and far between up here. Searches on Bike trader have thrown up the nearest 636 as being in blackpool (a couple of hours trip) and the guy wants 5200 for an 05 bike. Bollocks to him! The next is in manchester. Im not good at this type of thing because after Ive travelled a long way, Im tired and not in the best frame of mind to appraise the bike and make sure Im getting what Im after - I will often end up buying it whatever.

Something very local has caught my eye, its an 05 bike and the guy only wants 4k for it. He seems a bit of a muppet but the bike is still within its warranty. Trouble is its not a 636, its a Yamaha R6. The thought of getting an R6 has never crossed my mind, I dont even think I like yamaha's to be honest but I dont have a lot of experience with them. I just see them as a nice bike but a bit common and have a boy racerish edge to them. Thats maybe unfair but I cant help how I feel about them. Trouble is Im tempted to go have a look at the R6 anyway.

So the question after the long winded intro is what is there to like about the R6, whats its advantages, its build quality. Can anyone out there convince me that the yamaha would be a good investment? Or what about the flipside - any reasons why the 636 would be the better or worse choice.

I'm no expert but have ridden two different R6's one being a T plate the other an 02. Lovely looking/sounding bike and no doubt its quick.

I'd say go testride one as ultimately only you can decide if you like it or not!

Having just bought an '06 636 with 3,500 miles on the clock and a Micron and Datatool S4 for £4,200 I can tell you they ARE available for the price you're looking at.

I saw one at 4200 but a guy had first refusal and bought it on sight. Then I found mine on E-bay.

If you're prepared to wait a couple of weeks and pick up from more than 100 miles from where you live you'll get one.

And you won't regret it.
