just thought i'd ask the question.

i use autoglym super resin polish at the moment, and was wondering what you guys are using on your machines.

it's pretty good, but i'm open to trying other polishes.

it goes on easy and the bike comes up a treat after. rich green from BCF uses turtle wax, and that finish too is pretty good.

so come on, what do you think i should try to get the bike looking top banana ?

give plus and minus comments.

I'm not really in to cleaning bikes but I can get the car up to a very shiny standard using a concoction of stuff. When cleaning the bike it's simple, generally just AG SRP and AG Gloss Protection Seal (or whatever its called) mixed 50/50. Gives a decent enough shine, then Mr Sheen over the fairings.

Autoglym shampoo and conditioner to start with, followed by a rinse. Chain oil, WD40 and engine oil added at this stage, then autosol metal bits while it's all drying. Then fairings get Holts polish from Halfords, with an Autoglym polishing cloth.

Came up quite nice, I did that yesterday. It's a shame I don't have a cover and it rained today. Crying or Very sad

I neither wash nor polish my bikes.

I believe simoniz wax (proper wax, in a tin) makes just about anything very shiny indeed and for a long time if you are prepared to spend a lot of effort applying it. Wax-on, wax-off, wax-on, wax-off.

lol, its not hard mate, just make sure the bodywork is really really clean, apply the polish with a lintfree cloth, wait till it dries to a white haze and then, using a fresh cloth, lightly buff it off. voila! shiny bike! Laughing

I'm with ^ him.

The bike was last washed in 2005, I genuinely can't remember the last time I polished it...

Back in the day of motorcycle pride and endles Sundays, I used Autoglym shampoo, a chamois leather, Autoglym polish, followed by Autoglym gloss.

thanks for the tips beatnck. i also follow the same regime as you. i find the autoglym pretty good, just wondering what others are using.

for exhaust i use AUTOSOL - no other product better.if chrome is marked i use some fine wire wool with autosol on it to get it spotless (suggested by someone on BCF). used it the other day, and it worked.

for black stuff i use turtle wax' WET 'N' BLACK - works a treat. (try it)

for plastics i use AUTOGLYM super resin polish.

for de-greasing i use GUNK liquid. (buy the non-aerosol, it lasts longer).

some have said they use Mr Sheen. can you explain why. was it something you stumbled upon or did someone tip you off as to the benefits of the stuff.

Used that once and some autosol for the metal. That should do me for another year.

If you use proper wax polish (see my earlier post). You need to apply it in small circles with a soft cloth and keep rubbing until it is almost shiny then buff it with a fresh cloth. If you try and do too large an area at once, you land up with smears everywhere. You are essentially polishing the surface of the wax rather than wiping off dried residue so you can build up several layers.

It produces a thick layer of polish that keeps on building up every time you use it.

Certainly brings up paintwork/chrome/whatever (even plastic trim and wood) shinier than anything else I've seen. Mate of mine had a faded red vauxhall cavalier. When he was away one weekend we washed, t-cut then simonized half of it for a joke (exactly half, right down the middle). The polished half looked like it had just rolled out of the factory.

I'd heard a few people say that they use it for polishing their bikes. It does a good job and is quicker than using proper polish on/polish off stuff.
