With the chain on the top run, the split link clip should have the open end facing the sprocket

if that what your asking ?

On the top run of the chain the closed end of the split link should be facing the front sprocket.

What bike is this for?

I read on the back of a chain box that split pins are not to be used on bikes over 400cc.

Just wondering Smile

If it's a rivet it doesn't matter what way it goes on, it makes no difference.

There's a splt link in your box, top right.

*edit, too slow, yes the green circled thing is the split link.

Can I just add.

I wouldn't use a split link on a 100hp motorbike, a few might disagree but it's not worth the risk.

The red and yellow circled bits along with the o rings are what you use to join the chain. There's no need to replace anything.
If your dad has a riveter I assume he knows how to use it, you don't need anything else.

What you all on about eh? EH?

As far as I remember last time I changed my chain, I had all the goodies in the picture too. The U shaped link bit goes through the chain holes to link it, then the fish plate with 2 holes goes on, giving the link tensile strength, then finally the split-link clip goes on the top.

You cannot rivet anything that is shown in the picture! Or, if you can, please tell me cos I've don't see how. The holes in the fishplate are bigger than the holes in the sideplates of the rest of the chain, to my knowledge...

I haven't tried, I don't have a riveter!

But I was under the impression that the stuff in the pic at the beginning of this thread was split link kit, and I thought you needed a different bunch of stuff for a rivet link. But I could be completely wrong, it's not unheard of (in fact its bloody common)

What happened to your post with the pics? I was about to look at the second pic then it absconded!
