Looking at getting a 600cc sports tourer and have got it down to these three.

1. Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat
2. Kawasaki ZZR600
3. Honda CBR600F

What are the good and bad points about these bikes, and which would be the best one to get. I do alot of motorway/fast A road riding and bike is used daily as it is my only form of transport, but also want something that'll play at the weekends. Looking at around a '96/'97 bike. Or if you have any other sensible suggestions for a bike in this category, then do say.

Don't know anything about them but I like the look of the Suzuki GSXF 600 Smile . Out of those 3 I would probably choose the ZZR though. The Honda is probably better but you get an older/higher milage bike for the same money compared to the others, negating the advantage really.

All are good.

CBR and YZF are good all round, ZZR has the strongest motor.

Insurance on the ZZR will be the cheapest, I should think.
Quote for me on a 94 ZZR was £490 (17, quiet area, garage, alarm)
was probably nearer 700 for the T-Cat, same with the CBR.

All are pretty similar, tbh. ZZR had a reputation as being crazy fast in its day, not sure how that holds up today.
Both the ZZR and T-Cat have (somewhat unfair) reputations as being buses. More likely to find a cheap ZZR around as they've been in production forever with comparatively little change and they don't tend to hold their value as well as the other two.

I suggest you check out the MCN bike reviews section. All of them are 4 or 5 stars I believe.

Also consider the ZX6 which still makes a good tourer for many, despite being a bit more 'sports'.

A good example of any of those three bikes would be the best. I would advise you not to decide which of the three you want before going looking. Buy the best condition you can afford and you won't be disappointed by it.

I'd say the ZZR is the spongiest, maybe best tourer. The CBR the best alrounder, with the thundercat somewhere between the two.

There is no 'best'. They each excel at their niches.

As suggested, try them out for riding position/comfort etc...

but personally my 1st choice would be the CBR as an all-rounder, and for that Honda reliability
maybe the ZZR for the touring possibilities (and because I'm a already a Kwak owner at the moment)

...but not sure about the Thndercat mainly because I don't know much about them
