Hi,

Today as I was coming home from my MOT, I was going round a corner and the bike seemed to cut out and then start again, abit of a splutter and a backfire, with a surge of power. Scared me abit as I was leaning over, and it did it again a few times in a row coming up my hill. The fuel light flashed abit too, then went off, and has stayed off. It isn't a low fuel problem though as there is plenty in and its never done that before, it usually flashes for about 20 miles before running out.

I can't fathom it really, a few background things:

The bike has been stood for a while, but was fine all day until that point.

The bike failed on a a few seized links in the chain.

Also tips on how to easily fix the chain would be cool. And any places where I can get a cheap Continental Road Attack for the front of the SV would be cool too.

Joe.

Water in the fuel clasically causes 'kangarooing'. If you open the carb drain screw and catch what runs out, any water droplets should be obvious as they don't mix with petrol.

An SV650 right? Make sure the sparkplug recess on the front pot isn't full of water, corrosion and miscillaneous grot. The front wheel tends to fling all sorts of crap up in there unless you've fitted a fender extender.

Good thinking, there is a fender extender and the bike has been covered up 90% the time but I think you might be onto something with the first thing. I will be fitting new sparkplugs so I will have a look at that when I change them.

Cheers.
