Hi Folks,
New guy on the block here. Just passed my CBT last week & looking at buying a nice little 125 runner for a bit of practice while I build up to my test. So I need some advice from you lot.
Firstly, there's a bike going locally,Aprilia 125 (Learner Legal) that's `J` reg,13,000 miles, virtually full rebuild as it was a project the previous owner was doing & present owner has completed. Nice re-spray job as it was layed down by the 1st owner, but it's not stolen or anything dodgy.
The guy has said he'll let it got for approx £700-750 with 11 months tax & MOT on it.
Your thoughts please on the price!
Secondly, the bike, for some reason, sometimes gets a bit stuck in it's gears. This happens after about 15mins of running, which makes it damn hard to change gears(up or down), thus meaning you have to try to ride along in whatever gear you are presently in. It doesn't happen all the time but most of the time.
It's been suggested that it could possibly be that the gear fluid is too thick & when it gets hot it's expanding too much??
The seller is getting a new bike very shortly as he's just doing his Direct Access as we speak so he's not had time to fix the problem.
To be honest I've not got a clue so any ideas on that one?
Thanks for reading & opinions/comments most welcome.

Keith is the one to talk to.
Did the 'rebuild' include an engine rebuild?
As a general rule I'd say avoid a bike with problems like that, because it may well be something nastier than just changing the oil, especially if the previous owner did seem to know what they were doing |

Hi
Well, you have chosen not to go for it, but anyway.
If it is J reg then that is 1991~92. It is probably an Aprilia AF1 Futura. Single sided swinging arm and 5 spoke 17" wheels? About the same top speed as an RS125. Tend to understeer a bit unless you corner on the power.
The problem is probably the clutch adjustment. On the Aprilias there is an adjuster at the handlebars an another inside the clutch cover. The one inside the clutch cover is really the most important.
All the best
