My mate just bought one,

What does everyone think of them? personally I feel a bit 'meh' about them. He bought it with the fairing (thank god) as the unfaired ones look a bit leary over the front.

I have the Bandit 600S and cant wait to see what the two are compared like. On paper I think the SV will outrun the Bandit, but I know I can outride him.

They remind me of countless middle age crisis couples who find that these bikes will suit them for everything they give, and then they get one each in different colours and go to Wales and back when there's no clouds.

They look great in a ditch.

If you get one, make sure it is the old old, with straight through system, modified.

I rode g's breafly, for a blast up the motorway and then a bit of stunting. It gets you from a-b, but i'd say the hornet is a lot more fun.

I quite like both the 'S' and the naked one, although like Jay would rather have a Hornet than a naked SV any day. I think out of the faired Bandit, Hornet and SV the faired SV is by far the best looking with the faired Bandit in particular being the epitome of dull.

Oh, well.

Meanwhile back to what I was talking about before I was interupted.

I will probably give it a blast tonight to see what it is like. So far he seems to love it, but he did have a GS500 as his last bike! Smile

I cannot see the point of them, when you have bikes like the fazer, and triumph speed four, for not a lot more money, both of which are much higher up the spec and quality scale imo...

A friend of mine recommended the SV to me as a first bike, and I must admit in the pictures I'd seen it looked okay. So I went to the dealers and saw one in the flesh and I thought...meh!

Didn't even sit on it or ask about it... Thumbs Down

i love mine, its a 2001 model carby,

Compared to the bandit which weighs something like 198ish.kg and has 78hp the sv weighs 167ish.kg and has 72hp. and the sv makes a great base bike for modding

Can get very low mileage models from 2,500 to 3,000.

Dull, slow and handles like an oil tanker.

Good for a first bike though.

The SV IMO is suited to a certain rider, it won't thrill you unless tuned and then you've depricieted the value of it.

I think it's a good bike, it does the job, so i wouldn't say it was a bad bike.

Forgot to say: - Bring back the TL!

Well ive owned mine now for about a month...

Gotta say its pretty good Thumbs Up

Its not the fastest machine ive ever rode, but its not the slowest.

Its not the prettiest machine i know, but its not the ugliest.

Its not the best sounding machine ive ever ridden, but its not the worst.

Its not the most thrilling bike ive ever ridden, but its not boring.

Its not the comfiest bike ive ever ridden, but its not uncomfy.

Its not the most well balanced bike ive ridden, but its not the heaviest.

I think that about sums up the Sv...

I wake up every morning, and i feel happy when i see her, and i enjoy riding her, but i dont get that "feeling" when i step off her at my destination...

Great bikes, just not very exciting.

I do love my sv's, since I've had 3 of them and there will be more to follow. I just feel really at home on them.

Out of curiosity - Killa, have you ever ridden one?

I can't help but think you like others base your opinions on looks, price and most importantly, bike magazines.

Truth is it was un-faired and I just thought it was plain ugly, what with all that metal on show, plus I thought the bars were too low. I also looked at Honda CB250 & CB500 (new 07 models) and Hornet, 600 Bandit (faired and un-faired), Yamaha XJ600N, BMW F650CS (belt driven), and Suzuki XF650 Freewind. I really liked the BMW but couldn't afford it, I didn't like the riding position of the Hornet, Bandit, or Divvy and the CBs just spread my thighs so far apart it made my legs ache Shocked In the end I went for the Freewind, it's as close to the BMW as I'm going to get, I liked the riding position and though it's quirky it's growing on me. I didn't test ride anything as I really didn't know what I was looking for I just knew I needed a good riding position. I took my DAS on an ER5 but after 3 days my wrists ached so I knew they'd be no good so I didn't even look at them and I gave sports bikes/customs a complete miss for the same reason - riding position.

i liked the look of them before i bought one...i use my bike daily for work..had a cg then an er5 which was perfect for work but i wanted a bike for some fun also...

so i got a

w reg sv650s
1 owner
5000 miles
mint apart from tyres

£1600

i cant see a better bike for me as an all round package...for that kind of money...

if i wanted a bike purely for my short commute then id stick to the cg or me lammy......

if i wanted a sunday bike id go buy a nice r6...

the sv is middle of the road.....and it only costs me 200 to insure...29yrs..

you show me a better bike for my need and ill go buy one
