Haven't had a crash for a while, but had one today. Guess it was going to happen eventually.

Heading down a dual carriageway, 70 limit going down to 50, coming to the end (big roundabout where it connects to a morotway). A car is parked up ahead in the outside lane (it's run out of petrol) so the traffic flow comes to a sudden slow then stop. The car in front comes to a fairly swift stop. So do I. Unfortunately, the car behind doesn't and shunts me forward into the back of the car in front. Just when I think it's over, the car behind that hits even harder and shunts me again.

Fortunately I was in the car, not on the bike. It was recovered by the police recovery agents (couldn't start it - battery probably flat after waiting ages for the rozzers and couldn't lift the bonnet to jump it) and then I've had it recovered to a garage where it's being assessed . A hire car is being brought out to me at work tomorrow courtesy of help hire. Hopefully mine won't be written off as I've recently spent £3k on it (including a new engine) - but a very brief estimate from the garage was a minimum of £5k!

Then I took the bike to work, first time this year. Wasn't bad at all, despite a bit of drizzle.

Here are some pictures:

Sounds like what happened to me, except there was only 3 cars (so no blue Peugeot at the back) and I was at the front, not middle.

If you can, try and get the person infront of you to claim off the guy behind as it technically wasn't your fault (although some would argue you should have left adequate distance inbetween yourself and the car infront). If your car had come to a complete stop and THEN was hit then that's good as it's something to argue over if other people's insurance companies get their nickers in a twist.

When I was hit from behind (me being car #1) the guy in car #3 tried to say that car #2 hit me, and THEN he hit car #2. Infact it was car #3 who pushed #2 into me (only one bump, not 2).

Be ready for the insurance companies to try and blame it all on you, but stick to your guns and don't let them bully you. I hope things work out OK for you and create a minimal amount of hassle Thumbs Up Karma

No joking, last weekend an old guy, about 65, drove into the side of my 4 week old car, SMIDSY. I was in a red TT driving at thirty and he pulls out of a petrol station as I drive past, what hope do we have on bikes?

my mate got shunted by a pug 206. Those things (and the 205) just dont like being smacked in the front.

But then again, it looks like the rear has taken a bit of a pounding too! (*titter*)

The French got a whipping once again, looks like the old British car didn't sustain nearly as much cosmetic damage as the others. Laughing

I once hit a 2 hour old Golf GTi.. I blame him, though in insurance terms it would of been my fault as I was too close, he emergency stopped shortly after pulling away from a round about for no reason so even tho I was really far behind I just touched his bumped and left a little bit of NSR on it... Embarassed

..he didn't seem too bothered and didn't claim, I think the paint would of rubbed off.
but 2 hours old...
Neutral
I wonder if he hit the brake instead of the throttle?

I understand Helphire is good and if they took on the claim and sorted the hire car you have a very good chance of winning the claim.

Think its normally the driver who was at the back will get the big claim made against him/her.

Good luck

Forking hell that peugeot is cream-crackered!

What road were you on mate?

You would have thought that after the guys petrol warning light came on he would have managed to get it to the hard shoulder! Even if he was going 70mph and run out completly he should have been able to roll it over to the side!

Shocked Hope you're ok, similar happened to me in October.

Don't wanna say it but I very much doubt you'll see your car again Sad

Some bird did this to mine last month. She "didnt see the white lines" at the junction at the end of a 20mph road littered with speed bumps.

I was heading into town to do some shopping and I'd only decided against taking the bike 'cause himself decided to come along with me. If she'd hit me side-on on the bike, it'd have been pretty messy. I don't use that road on the bike any more - I'm terrified that someone'll do it again.

A34 just before the M3.

Helphire kindly delivered a nice shiny new VW Golf GT Turbo to me at work this afternoon.

I'm still awaiting the full estimate for repair from the garage before I find out whether or not my insurers will write off my car or repair it. Given that I bought a new engine last year, on one hand I'm quite keen for it to be repaired - however I would have been looking to replace it within the next 12 months anyway. I'm looking for a new job at the moment and if I am successful in getting one, I may as well start it by buying a new car!
