Go to your local Yamaha dealer and they will order it for you. Should come the next day (as it should with the amount you pay for them!). The cost of fitting was within the price of the kit for mine.

I have a feeling it will just be a throttle stop, so you won't be able to rev the bike anywhere near as high. Inline Four sports bike engines are not really good for being restricted as they need to be rev'ed (exactly what the restriction prevents) to get any power. Though of course they look great. My mate had an '05 CBR600RR as his first bike and it was just a throttle stop.

I'm pretty sure you can only get the restriction kits from certified dealers as they have to fit it for your certificate to be worth anything (arguably that might not be a huge amount...).

No idea about bits and bobs for an R6, but I'm sure someone who owns one will be along to help Thumbs Up .

Check out:
https://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/index.php
R6 How-to DVD which is very good & might come in handy.
https://www.sportbikehowto.com/uk/yamaha_03R6.php
Then for parts just check out ebay, always have something on there & much cheaper then in shops.

If you put your bike in neutral and open the throttle 1/8th of the way it will be bouncing off the rev limiter before you know it.

Limiting the travel of the throttle does not restrict the available rev range.

I assume the 04 R6 is fuel injected? In that case I'd assume it'd be some kind of throttle stop, or maybe different throttle bodies. Not really sure on restricting F.I bikes.

I wouldn't recommend a bike like that to be restricted.

I've had experience of a 100bhp bike restricted and it was s***e, throttle stops are not great. Washers are much better.

so its defo the throttle stop thats gonna be restricting the bike.

nothing electrical?

so is this just a case of removing somthing out of the handle bar or is it under the tank?

Feel free to explain how they differ.

On the 99 R6 I've personally derestricted it had washers, and little plastic bobbins that physically stopped the carb slides moving up further than the set amount.

How is that different from a throttle stop?

I agree it would feel weird, in the fact the throttle won't have full movement. But the restriction should feel exactly the same.

If you're just going to remove them anyway, don't bother in the first place. I'd say 1 in 5 actually restrict their bike, and half of those actually keep them in.

First thing to check is how far does the throttle turn, if it turns what seems to be normal, then you need to look elsewhere.

If it is a carb'd R6, which I doubt in 2004, then there will be 4 discs in the inlet maniford (rubber bits the other side of the carbs) and probably 4 plastic bobbins in the top of the carbs.

If it's neither of those things, I can't really help. I'd have a chat with your local friendly dealer, they've probably fitted more of them than you've had hot dinners. </exajuration>

I've had an ER5 that was restricted and also at the same time a Z750s which is also restricted.

The Er5 is restricted by washers in the inlet, the Z750s is just a throttle stop.

I can use soo much of the throttle range of the ER5 and have the ability to make the 33bhp in whatever gear I fancy.

On the Z its all sort of weird, you don't have the same amount of power easily available especially in lower gears. I also do not feel confident of a quick set off from lights say if I had filtered to the front.

The ER will top off at about 95 on the flat, the Z will do about 83 .

Thats because you asked the question in the wrong section. The 33bhp restriction is a British thing and asking in the wrong place on a predominantly US R6 site is just not going to give you the right answers. Try asking in the UK section instead. Here's the link:
