Is this a new thing ?

I've never had to show anything for an MOT, V5, licence or the like. Just take the car along and take it away with the new MOT at the end of the day. Confused

You dont have to show anything Colin. The only time you will have to show documents is when you need a new registration plate.

Just to echo the above I've never even shown my v5 at an MOT.

I was told it was going to be compulsory to present the v5 when MOTing, but a year later I still havn't.

You also have to show them 'the money'.

You used to have to show the V5 at a vehicles first MOT (just before it reached three years old) in order to get your MOT certificate forward dated to take advantage of any extra days grace. It works in the same way as having a month before your current MOT runs out to get it re-MOT'd and having the extra days added on to your pass certificate.

But with the advent of the new computerised MOT database you no longer need to produce your V5 at its first MOT as the system already knows what date your vehicle was first registered and as such it automatically forward dates you MOT certificate to the right date.

Not strictly true nowadays with the new system. You don't need your license.

Why do you need yor driving licence to tax a vehicle?

On my VED reminder is only states V5, MOT and Insurance. Anyone can tax any car. Just insurnace and V5 have to cover the same car I believe.

The only time I've had to show documents was on the first computerised MOT (last year), I just had to show the V5 and last years MOT certificate.

Didn't need to show it again this year though.

Yes, you're quite right I was thinking of taxing not MOT'ing. Sorry to mislead anyone.
