XLR has seized

Hi,

Just had time to check out the XLR and the Varadero. They've been left for about 8-10 weeks without any kind of start or run. (Been elsewhere, busy etc)

I got the Varadero ticking over for 5 minutes then I went over to the XLR. I put the ignition on, set the choke up and set the fuel up...all ready. When i hit the starter button the starter motor just spun round but without the engine turning...so obviously the cylinder has seized due to the oil settling in the bottom of the engine. I gave the bike a good shake here and there with no success.

Anyone know how I can start the engine which has been starved of oil? Is it a dealer/mechanic's job to sort out? Or could it be as simple as lifting the bike up or down?

It only has 77 miles on it after a year....

lol clint you nit, if engines seized because the oil ran to the bottom there'd be a lot of seized bikes around Rolling Eyes

Oh and your starter motor wouldn't turn either.

Phoenix is right buddy. No matter how long bike is stood and how dry your barrels get it will usually turn over no problem.

Does the starter motor just make a buzzing sound or actually turn?

try bumping...its always a good alternative to the lazy starter motor...

If the started motor is spinning without the engine turning over the started clutch is stuck. As everybody said just bump the bike and run it for a bit and this normally free`s the thing up.

The jump start worked wonders...I realise it was the battery not the oil drainage "problem" I orignially thought. Embarassed

Hopefully it'll start up first time after putting 22 miles onto it, making it err...99 miles since new in Aug 2002. Smile
