According to this MCN Article bikers have a serious accident every 7500 riding hours. Apparently horse riders only manage 350 hours between accidents.

I know MCN aren't exactly famous for being accurate, but they claim those figures are from a study by Stoke Mandeville hospital, who should be pretty accurate.

I ride a lot, and it would take me about ten YEARS to clock up 7500 bike hours.

Just to counter the number of serious accidents reported on here, there's got to be people out there riding 20+ accident free years. Who are they?

The guy that sold me his girlfriend's CG125 hadn't had an accident even in 30 years of riding.

it does say SERIOUS accidents
they define serious as life threatening or permanently disabling
so a minor off on diesel or gravel wont count

The dad of a mate of mine has been riding for about 40 years, had a massive crash last year that nearly killed him, ironically a relatively slow-speed highside on track. Would agree with the 7500 estimate, but all depends on where you ride and how good your obs are.

Oh, and luck of course.

I just got my insurance renewal thing through this week. It runs out on Saturday, (which would be right since it was a saturday I picked the bike up...)

Can't believe its been a year Cool No offs or prangs although two near misses which did give me the screaming meemies...

As to hours? No idea, I've used it most days, in rain etc... I've put 5k miles on it which seems quite low but 90% town riding...

(Last night in town I ripped up a nob in Saxo, [he had dump valves, I couldn't resist] normally I don't; hence the no accidents, i'm usually not that brave. Every now again though is good for the soul Karma )

Town riding, so let's assume average 30mph.

5k miles at 30mph will take 166.66 hours.

Which means if it really is 7500 hours between accidents you've got 45 accident free years to go.

hopefully.

12000 miles this year, average 60 (30->110), 200 hours. 37.5 years.

Ive already had a potentially disabling crash, prior to this year, so was the timer reset then?
