I'm doing a trackday at Cadwell on Saturday and wondered if anyone could tell me where the nearest/quickest to get to petrol station is to the place? Also, how many miles am I likely to be doing in a 20 minute session?

Thanks Smile Thumbs Up

Out the circuit, turn left, maybe 2 miles down the hill in Scamblesby.

Grumpy little man comes out and fills it for you, but note that they only take cash.

Miles? Depends how fast you're going innit.

Hi
Theres a little one as you turn left out of the circuit onto the main road down the bottom of the hill, but its not always open.

You will use a hell of a lot more petrol than you usually do, probably as low as 60 - 70 miles to a tank, if that.

Ok cheers. If he's closed is my best bet to find one in Louth?

As for miles, it's my first trackday, and obviously first time there (in novice), so any rough guesstimates? 2:30 to do a 2 mile circuit would mean 8 laps = 16 miles per session. Is that a reasonable rough figure?

Yes, Louth would be the next closest.

Why do you need to know the mileage? As Luke explained, your MPG will be all to hell anyway, so it's not like it'll help work out when to get petrol.

So I'll be able to figure out how many sessions I'll get before I need to fill up.

Cant say i had a mega problem on my hornet. Would noramlly go the morning on one tank then fill up at lunch time. Just put your tap in the "on " position, if it conks out move to reserve and you'll have enough to get to either petrol station.

I don't see what good will come from looking at a metal plate.

Thanks Jay, I was going to run it till it needs reserve, just didn't want to end up slowing down somewhere where I should be hammering along and have someone run into the back of me. I just get panicky about these things, you know first hand how small the Hornet tanks are Very Happy

Well every bike petrol tank I've ever looked in, and I've looked in a lot including a Hornet, you can see if there's still fuel sloshing around if you actually get your eye down to the hole and give the bike a wobble.

Use your tripmeter by all means, but it'll be lying like a rug unless you're riding at road pace the whole time.

You can move the bike about to see how much fuel you have. You can do 100+miles on the road to a tank so i'd expect at least 70 on your first track day. Dont worry about it, jsut fill up when you get chance.
Everyone moans about the tank size yet i get have to fill up as oftern on my new bike with 5lt extra tank space.

If Scamblesby is closed, turn right out the track and follow the road to Louth. At the crossroads after 3-5mins turn left onto the main road and down/up the dual carriageway. Straight on at next island, right at the next and take the right turn 50 yards after the island. You'll see the garage from then. It's about 10mins from Cadwell.

A full tank on arrival will see you through till lunch, then fill up during the 1hr40m break. (1hr lunch, 40min till your session).

Have fun Thumbs Up

Thanks for your help everyone Thumbs Up. My girlfriend's going in the car aswell now, and I've got a jerry can in the garage I didn't know I had and apparently she has one aswell so we'll fill them up too.

Thanks for the directions Cillit, the info about the Hornet Jay, and about the petrol in the tank Bendy: I've never bothered to look any more than vertical at that plate in the tank (from sat on the seat) so I just assumed it went all the way back. The bike is normally very well behaved with regards to fuel consumption and doesn't vary wildly regardless of the trip it's doing (blast round twisties, motorway or inner city commuting) so I've only sloshed the petrol around a handful of times. I know when it's full, when it's half empty and when it's running on fumes Laughing
