Relationship slight issue...

Hi all,

I`ve recently started seeing a lass that I have known for a short amount of time.
We get on extreamly well, same sence of humor, etc etc.

Anyway, last night she came clean on one issue, she isnt 18....she`s 16.
This has thrown me off balance, apart from being annoyed that she lied to me, the slight increase in age gap irks me. Im 21 myself, and although 5 years isnt much of a gap, the possible maturity gap does bother me.
Yet, as I said, we get on very very well, but Im not quite sure how to react on this.

Any opinions on what you lot would do in such a situation?

That's a lot, but I've got a friend whose sister is in the same situation, they've been together about 4 months I think. Really just comes down to whether it's a problem for you. If it is, give it a miss.

I would say the fact that she didn't tell you her age to begin with is evidence of the obvious maturity gap.

16 year-old girls are all crazy.

depends on what you want , crazy fun shags are ok , LT maybe not, namely as people change when they get around the 20s mark,

I'd say the fact she didn't tell you her actual physical age sooner could also be an indication, not of a maturity gap, but of the fact that at 16 she would be pre-judged by many as being immature. You had no signals previous to her disclosure that there would problems of that nature, and she's still legal so what the heck, just see where it goes? Let's face it, few people are *completely* honest about everything at the start of a relationship and it's not like she came out as being 14 or something - now *that* would have been bad... Of course, you might want to ask for evidence that she is 16 just to be sure

Picture the scene, you go down the pub with her, you both get asked for ID, a normal thing to happen these days with pubs not wanting to receive a big fine, she can't produce it...

Personally I'd say no, she's only just out of school for a start and the fact she lied about her age means she'll probably sleep with all your friends behind your back and quite possibly masturbate using your playstation controller when it's THAT week.

If you wanna take things serious just be aware that through 16-21yrs people change and some dont!

You could spend time with her till she is 21 then you have been together for 5 yrs then she tells you she needs space to grow and dumps you!

But then again you two could be together and when your 60yrs old with your grand kids playing in the sand on the sea front whilst the two of you are holding hands, you may say to her im so glad you lied to me and came clean about your age back in March 2007, because i got to spend my life with you and i wouldn't change that for anything!

The choice is your mate no one knows what the future holds, you only live once, if this was your last week alive what would you do!

Thats what i tell myself to help me make my decisions that i find hard especially emotional ones!

If you were quite happy to go out with her when you thought she was 18, I don't see why your suddenly changing your mind. Granted she lied about her age, but if she was that immature I think you would be getting pissed off with her already.

Age doesn't really matter, there is 4 years between me and my missus, she's 23 and I'm 27,When we met she was 18 and I was 22. Doesn't seem bad or improper at all.

Judge her on her personality, not by a number.

The fact that she did not come over as seeming 16 for the time before she told you maybe something to think about. She may come over as older than some 16 year olds,but at the end of the day its how you feel about her age. If you dont have a problem with it then, there is no problem! But if you have any douts then perhaps you should give it a miss, at the end of the day if you have douts then its going to put a strain on what ever kind of relationship you have.
My cousens 16 and pretty mature with it, but she still found the 3 year age gap between me and my boyfriend as a large gap! where as i dont. I just think at that age people go for people round their own age.. but that may just be what i have found

On the flipside, she must have had the maturity of an 18 year old for you not to doubt that she was 18 in the first place.

If she's fit and can hold a conversation that doesn't involve homework then it's perfectly fine.

Age gaps are only an issue if you make them one. Dont make a jot of difference, they are only an issue to other people lol!!

This happened to me on a night out. she said she was 18 but then eventually fessed up she was 16. she turned 17 last week. We are friends but Im 25 and for some ridiculous reason I cant bring myself to try and shag her for fear of being cast as a dirty old man!!

Is it accpetable to be going round shagging 16 year olds? I didnt really think it was. perhaps Im being too suburban!
