no it is not acceptable to just ride in the gutter, you pay tax, if car drivers are intimidating FUCK EM, i know how scary it can be sometimes, only had my first big bike a week myself, but at the end of the day they are our roads as well! I have got that fed up with people in cars "not seeing me" that if im not overtaking or filtering im right in the centre of the lane in there rear view mirror with my main beam on, I dont leave the house without main beam on, makes me visible Very Happy

Thats why car drivers push people about, because people riding with their main beam on intentionally pissing them off. There is no need to, why try to bully cars out of the way. Forward observation and road positioning will get you forward faster than blinding the car in front. There is just no need, the next biker to pull up behind the car is going to be thought of the same way as the driver thought of you.

Its also harder to judge distance at junctions when a bike is aproaching on main beam, you stand a bigger chance of someone pulling out on you. Thumbs Down

You did, I said bully cars out the way, big difference. Wink

You would get more respect if you didn't blind them that's all I am saying. I've been riding over 20years and never needed to use main beam.

the point is, the thread, it is not acceptable to be made to feel like you should be in the gutter cos of bullies in their cars, and forcing cars and bullying em aint that different really is it? come on lets not get picky, I do agree with your comments to some degree but I am curteous and respectful to every one that is the same to me, the bullies in motors soon change when you tap on the drivers window and wag your finger at the lights! Shocked I aint having a pop at all car drivers cos I was one up till last week, and still drive vans, just bullies Evil or Very Mad Very Happy

Should learners who ride at the side jsut say F it and go right in the middle of the lane?

Yep , aslong as they can keep up with speed limits then i do not see why they should be pushed to the side of the roads.

So true. The idea of the 2 second rule is for stopping time, as well as reaction time. And just fyi, it's often suggested that motorcycles should drop back even more #(2.5), but never should a motorcycle increase the time quicker than 2 seconds. If you ride without safety in mind on a motorcycle, you're asking to get killed.

It was both the rider (guvnor) and the drivers fault in that situation, but the almost getting killed part is purely put down to lack of care on the riders fault. Your fault guvnor, don't whine like an imbecile.

exactly, well said Colin. Another time, a driver might have to stamp on the brakes due to a kid/ped jumping into the road.

True, and it's not very common that a driver in a car will slam on the brakes for absolutely no reason. Perhaps he didn't check his blind spots, perhaps he just didn't care, but the major point is the 2 second gap IS there to make sure that a sudden slam on the brakes can give enough time to stop for the other driver/rider.

Perhaps you had take a long hard look at your riding style, because if its happening this often. You must be positioning yourself in the wrong place or riding to fast...

I never go for eye contact, but always look at the wheels of cars at a junction. Making eye contact can make some people think "OK he's seen me and it OK to start pulling out".... Just watch for any wheel movement and react to that. If they do not think you have seen tham they are less likely to pull out.

So far in the last year only 1 car has pulled out on me and that was on a large juntion where he was feeding into the same lane as i was in.. Had i not have set off so fast from the entry before him it would have been OK. I never even bothered with him, but the car behind me made sure he knew what he had done with lights and horn blazing away.....

I would have dragged you off your bike if you did that to my car. If he was doing an emergency stop he wouldn't have indictated, just stopped suddenly - so you should have been a reasonable distance behind. Your fault entirely.

I hope he has reported to the police, being as it wasnt an emergency stop, i was well enough back (although yes doing 50 in a 40 Embarassed ) but so was he.

Then hes looked round seen his turn too late and stopped pulling slighty right towards the white lines in the middle of the road.

meaning i had to pull left, and the reason I couldnt stop as I just found out is I need pads sorting (my own fault for not checking them i spose Embarassed )

I agree with your posts about emergency stops, and I do accept I have some blame as well as him, but I was just angry Very Happy Very Happy

chilled today after a nice long ride through glossop and snakes pass Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

cheers

andy

edit..... not pads, rear shoes
