I've had the ZX6R for nearly two years now and although it has many good points, the comfort level on it for long rides is pretty awful (which is what you get for having a sportbike I guess). Went on a 300 mile round trip yesterday, with about two longish breaks in the middle, and for the last 100 or so miles my lower back was really starting to ache.

Anyway, I'm possibly looking at something more comfortable for long distance (i.e. for doing trips over to Europe etc) with a better seating position and also the option for it carrying hard luggage would be very handy.

Not sure on new or second hand. Bikes I've thought of so far are Honda Pan European, Triumph (Sprint?) or possibly BMW but they seem a bit pricey/ugly Laughing .

Any other good suggestions?

I keep hearing people banging on about how comfortable the GSXRs are.

Problem with Gsxrs is that you're sat in a crouched over sportsbike position again. Have heard Varadero's have a good reputation for ride comfort but they're a wee bit ugly on the styling.

Might have a butchers in the Triumph dealers around here next week as they do seem to do some nice sports-touring type bikes.

I have just bought a sprint for the very same reason Stu, only done about 70 miles so far, but will update soon. Seems ok so far.

I have had a cbr600f for over a year now, and done some long rides in one go. no problems at all. the seat is very large and wide, well rounded so there are no pressure points, ant the bars are nice and close, you can almost sit upright. (well i can and i have long arms). All in all ive never been on the bike and said, oh i need to pull over to rest/stretch/get feeling back in my bum etc.

only thing i can think of comfier would be a goldwing lol

The bike that I first thought of when see the title and the purpose of the bike was.....

......CBR1100xx Blackbird

The seat looks comfy, built for speed and endurance so the luggage and comfort should be inbuilt.

A bit more sensible than that of of a Busa and I will be certainly looking at one for the 'next' bike. 2nd hand retail prices are good and reasonable too, not sure on servicing and general faults though.

ZZR1100, FJ1200, CBR1000F.

Should be able to find some decent examples.

Well, the VFR is very comfy as I found today. The gf says the pillion is too.

A CBR1000F is the comfiest bike I ever sat on.

I've heard tell that the ZZR1100 is pretty comfy too.

Stu, have you considered fitting risers, so that you can have the clip ons higher up and closer toward you, so you arent reaching forward and straining your back?

No offence but.. Have you ever ridden one? Neutral

The riding position is great, but the seat would find a home in any sadomasochists dungeon next to the cactus codpieces

Anyone thinking of getting one budget for a new seat Wink

zzr1100 is a great one to go for.. actually the 600 is still good appart from the 40k gearbox problem.

believe it or not the hayabusa is supposedly extremely comfy, suited perfectly to mile munchery..

Personally i'd still go for a pan euro (still might at some point) when your siting on it your not looking at it, its still more than quick enough to frighten yourself on (V4 litre engine) ever seen a copper use one and mean it? there not slow.

Lots to choose from, enjoy the test rides Thumbs Up

I do one and two up on the ZZR-600 and it just eats up the miles. Trying to persuade Mrs. K. into letting me get the 1400 but no joy so far... Smile

Test rode the new BMW F800S at the weekend, very nice and comfortable for rider and pillion, and under £6K new. Recent bike mag tests back to back with the VFR800 rated the BMW as the better bike . . .
Tried a Ducati Multistrada?

I owned my Blackbird for 3 years, loved it, toured on it with hard luggage 2 up and it still went like a missile when i wanted it to.

The BIRD can be modded with flip screen, bar raisers, gel seat, lowered pegs blahblah to make it as comfy as a PAN but still obscenely quick.
It will carry a Givi 40/40/52 litre system with ease and they are available at a good price, injection is the way to go for smooth economical (40+mpg) touring.
Cheap to service, not hard on consumables or the wallet.

FJR1300....

you KNOW it makes sense..

if you imagine a VFR is a Sportsbike designed for touring.. the FJR is a tourer designed for destroying sportbikes...

in the right hands, the FJR can, and often does, embarass sportier machines in the twisties Wink

all on a machine that has a fairing so effective you can smell your own farts Very Happy
