im not too sure to be honest.
my last bike was a Suzuki Bandit so this time i fancy a sporty number.

i just think id like something that is pretty comfortable to ride, the riding position shouldn't affect me too much because im only a short ass at 5'7"
i also like something with a bit of road presents and what ever i decide to get in the end to have a little bit of ooomph as my Bandit i thought was pretty nippy.

Question

well im trying to find something in the £2000 - £2500 range.

I have found a T reg GSXR600 for £2499 and also seen a 2000/2001 Ninja for 2450

its been a long time since my last bike and im now a little out of touch, i think perhaps a test drive on both would be most useful.
Confused

you think your short. Im 5'4 ya lanky bastard .

Ive got a 99 zx6r and not much changed as far as seating position etc for a couple of years and I think you will find the z quite comfy as I do.
Not sure about the suzzy Im afraid but it might be hard pressed to beat the kwaka if your planning on some decent miles.

What ever the advice given, go get ya ass on em and take em for a run before you make your decision.

Good luck and remember pics Thumbs Up

Ninja's are now the best looking sports.

They ride well, and sound better than the Gixxer.

FTW

Ninja's up to 2003 were more like sports tourers in comparison to the competition, but with strong engines. Then the B model came out and since then, they are entirely different bikes (read: uncomfortable and razor sharp) Thumbs Up

Gsxr from the same period will be lower down the comfort scale with the bars further away from you and lower, with a wide hard seat, and will most defintely a better sports bike, but of course, it depends on what your after from it Smile

So youve been awol for 4 years id recommend you do some lessons first to ease you back into ridding, then find an extra £400 and get an R1!

For your budget concerning the GSXR600 you could easily get a SRAD but you would find it difficult to find a decent K1, the k1 has improved midrange power over the earlier SRAD model.

With the ninjas you could easily pick up a Kawasaki J1 or J2 model.

You could also easily pick up an early R6!

Its really up to you and as others have said test riding makes a world of help in deciding which bike to go for!

Personally id recommend the GSXR600k1 and upwards but you would have to increase your budget or search hard to find one!

I personally wouldnt go near the kawasaki period as there engines are more fragile than others because they require the shims either to be checked or changed every 8000miles whereas the R6 dont need this till 24000miles and the GSXR600k1 needs the a valve clearance around i think 24000miles area too.

I have owned all three so thats just my experience!

I think a host a Ninja owners would disagree about the engines being fragile. Kawasaki know how to make a robust engine, just like the other three of the big four, so the ZX6 engine has no major issues like the others. They'll all have possible camchain tensioner issues at this age, and any other problems will likely be down to abuse or lack of servicing.

...and saying that an engine is "fragile" because it needs the valve clearances checked at 8000 miles (which I kind of doubt - it'll be at least 12,000 unless there's one early check and then a bigger interval) is piffle.

It's the 24 valve Yamahas (like the R1, Thundrace or FZR1000) that had the absurdly long valve clearance check intervals. The R6 is a conventional supersport 16v DOHC IL4, so valve clearance intervals will be in the industry standard 12-18,000 mile region.

The R6 does have longer service intervals, and the GSXR slightly shorter ones, which can impact running costs slightly if you use a dealer.

GSXR valve check is at 15K BTW.

GSXR doesn't have a ring to it,

the acronym probably means "GAY SEX RIDERS", i wouldn't know because i'm a stealthy assassin on my sleeper of a ninja. Maybe McGee would like to confirm the meaning of the GSXR?

I find my ZX6R very comfortable on the longer distances and it's not crippling. The srad aslo feels nice to sit on. Either bikes have their gripes though. Suzukis will corrode to buggery, but nothing else. Kwaks will suffer carb icing in due course and inevitably their brakes will cock up if you're not keen on the cleaning - warping disks are a must even on the J/G models. But there's nothing more than the banzai sound of a ninja screaming past you. Either way, good bikes for good money. Ninja sounds better than Gay Sex Rider mind Cool Razz

to be honest no i didnt, i was just too god damn lazy and impaitient !! ha ha...

there was only 1 gixer for sale near me and it looked a tad on the bulky side for me, although it was looking very nice and i was tempted, and for some reason just sitting on the ninja just reminded me of my 400 Bandit that i use to have, awwwww my little baby !! Crying or Very sad was sorry to see her go !!

but onwards and upwards, i have a bright yellow ninja to play with now !! Razz

Good to see you got the right colour ninja. The yellow one is fastest but obviously you knew that cos you got one. Only had mine 5 weeks, done 800 miles and love it, hasnt missed a beat except for a common problem of the gear lever sticking but a bit of grease loosens it up again,

Have fun Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
