Yamaha xs850

I have recently bought an older cruiser and had some work done to it. Last week I was sitting with it at idle and when I turned the handlebars the bike died with no indicator lights on the gauges. Where do I begin looking for a short?

Check your fuses first, then battery connections. Next logical step after that is too see if a wire broke or rubbed bare in the mass of loom behind the headlight.
