Just had a thought, would it be possible to stop people from being able to post links unless their karma was say level 2? Would stop spammers in their tracks pretty quickly and level 2 karma isn't hard to gain either so wouldn't be a hinderance to normal members.

Still wouldn't stop people spamming. All they would do is type www dot bikechatforums dot com to get round it.

Isn't the majority of spam automated? Normally the same old incoherent messages...

Automated bots can't sign up to the forum, and therefore can't post.

That's why there's no point in banning people posting links, cos if they can sign up, they can just put http: // instead of https://.

Something to stop people posting really long links would be good though, they're quite annoying as you have to scroll across the page to read the thread, a bit like you do with this thread... Razz
