I got a puncture at work (7 miles from home) so rode home very carefully and got to a roundabout and went round it looking like an absolute PRUNE!!

My sodding luck there was a police officer waiting to pull out of the junction and he saw me and pulled me over.

I didn't have L plates and i'm on provisional so i got 3 points and £60 fine!

I should've had 6 points as i didin't have either but i don't think he knew that.

Anyway i'm an idiot for not having the L's and i got what was due but what do these 3 points mean in the future.

I have my test in a couple of weeks, if i get my license will the points carry over to that (restricted)?

Also, in insurance quotes is it classed as a 'criminal conviction'?

I ask that you save the 'you idiot' and 'stupid kid' comments because i accept i'm an idiot i'm just wondering what the 3 points mean?

Yes it will carry over.(So don't get busted again, 6 points in 2 years = extended re-test)

Not sure about the criminal conviction part, I don't think so because traffic offences are a bit different to others, but wait for someone else to clarify.

Yes as I understand it the two years starts from the date of your test pass, so the three points you have already will mean that if you get another three, it'll mean a restest.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but you're also likely to have slightly inflated insurance costs too. Sorry for the bad news Shocked

2 years from your pass date. so dont get any more points until 2009.

Yeah insurance will be higher too. there was specialist insurers for that though.

More important is you riding on a flat tyre. Do that very often and the points will be a matter only of historical interest and a footnote in the coroner's report on your demise.

Have you got to produce your documents or did he just give you a fixed penalty notice?

To be fair I was close to riding with no MOT. When I got my documents checked in the policeman's talking brooch, it turned up my bike had no MOT, and although I thought I had MOT, I couldn't have put money on me having MOT... (I did, just the computer system didn't have it on)

Your in a bad place bud, everything was bad enough without the MOT too.

Could this not invalidate insurance too? In the eyes of a very pedantic officer albeit?

Everyone takes risks at some point mate, unfortunately yours got called. From the tone of your post it sounds like your already in remorse and dont need anyone to tell you how daft youve been.

Hope you can get past all this soon and start again./

Good Luck mate Thumbs Up

However those convictions appear on your criminal record. Also known as your record of achievement (for those Chavs out there) and can be used against you in court at a later date, so be warned.

Chances are they'll ask to see the L plates on your bike, if you complied, realised you cocked up and have corrected the fault, then there should be no reason to worry.

But the Slip i got just says 'riding out of accorance with license', then 'No L Plates' ticked.

I was 2 minutes from the MOT station and i got an MOT the next day, cant' i just say i was on my way down?

Insurance have nothing to do with it so i don't see how that can be a factor?

You can say you were on your way at the time, but from what I remember of my MOT, the test center notes down that you will be taking your bike to MOT'd, so that your insurance isn't invalidated/won't get in trouble with the police etc. So you can say it, but if the police try to look it up and find you weren't, then you might have a problem.

Ok so i had a valid MOT for the tax but it expired in between getting Taxed and now.

This means that I've been riding it without MOT (although i now have a valid MOT so could this suggest it was fully roadworthy at the time).

Would i get another 3 points for not having the MOT, are they likely to check the dates?

I'm just scared i'm going to lose my license with my test a couple of weeks away!

Insurance company's will wiggle out of paying if they can, not having an MOT is one thing they will use against you.

Was the MOT booked? Thats the only time you can ride a bike on the public highway if it was pre booked.

The insurance company have nothign to pay for though. I'm just worried about what the police will do when they see my bike wasn't MOT'd on the day they pulled me over?
