Ok, not too sure how to get this from my head to the post, but il try.

Do any of you find yourself being villanised for being a biker?

Things such as Girlfriends not letting her parents know you have a bike, or not letting them know you take the girl on the back because the rents wouldnt agree.

being watched in shops as you squeek around (perhaps in case you put some stuff in your lid)

the whole petrol pump fiasco

people giving you a very wide birth and staring at you when you walk anywhere with your lid on,

people automatically thinkng your a power ranger doing 120mph wheelies down the street while kids, puppies, pensioners and the disabled dive out of the way for their lives.

having people say ohh i dont like bikes, they cut me up and speed everywhere

people saying youd never catch me on a bike, bloody dangerous things, anyone who rides one must be thick

people who ask me if il ride again after my crash, i say of course i will, people retort with "your not wise, you had a luck escape last time"

feeling like you cant use a car park space incase a car driver tries to move your bike (happened me)

etc
etc
etc ad nausium

sorry rant over

Generally not. Pretty bikey round here.
Parents are intolerant of bikes though and tend to blank out whenever references are made to them or the fact that I ride.

If you walk anywhere with your lid on, you deserve to be stared at. Plus you deserve a kick in the crotch for being a knob.

Just normal biker life, never had any negative thoughts about it.

I'm glad I don't dress like a Power Ranger mind.

I can agree with some of that, my girlfriends parents tried avin a go at me incase i was taking her on the back of my bike and i aint even allowed to have pillions yet anyway coz of my L plates lol. (twats)

Putting shopping in your helmet? well ive always done that, its not stealing until its outa the shop.

My mates always say stupid remarks about having a bike, laughing about knocking bikers off of em as a joke. But they know now if they did do something to a biker which was unprovoked then they wouldn't have a car left Twisted Evil

My ex's mum was terrible for saying that I was going to die on a bike, then again she also said i shouldn't use certain T-junctions because they were blind etc.

I was just like errrr yeah, ok.

Then went and used them with her daughter in the car out of pure spite, it's just unneccessary IMO.

even not then if you simply say 'I was looking at the description in daylight before I bought it, to see if I liked the look of it'.

Always put stuff in me lid, as long they can tell there's no more in there when you pull the stuff out to pay..

wouldn't wear my helmet when not on the bike, just feels daft and probly look like a knob too.

btw I don't condone theft and am not advising a way of such a crime Thumbs Up

no need to get offensive bazza man, if youve nothing usefull to contribute why clog up the forum with redundant posts.

better to keep quiet and look a fool, than speak and remove all doubt

Assuming there was a question in there, the reason is: "Because I can".

SavageKymco wrote:

What doubt would that be then? You already assume all people who are quiet are therefore fools, so what have I got to lose?

When I get comments, I usually say something along the lines of "Do you say the same thing to people who take their 13 year old daughters horse riding?"

When they answer in the negative I follow with. "Did you know you are 20 times more likely to have a serious accident while riding a horse?"

I agree with the majority of the points there, however I dont see the ''her parents dont want her to go on the back'' point as victimisation. To me that just means that they care about her safety. Bikes are inherantly more dangerous than cars and nearly everybody knows that.

I always put shopping in my lid if I'm carrying it. It never fails to make the shopping attendant laugh for some reason Laughing

I can't remember the last time someone moaned about the bike to me (bar the parents), but when they do they're getting the horse riding statistic Very Happy

yeh, I didn't kinda think properly before I wrote that. More of a trust issue as well and not victimisation. Smile

It's not even a matter of trust in my opinion. My friends and family trust me for the most part, but I still ended up spreading myself across the tarmac in a very unpleasant crash. Bikes are intrinsically more dangerous than cars as a form of transport - it's perfectly fair for people to take that into consideration.

On topic - I'm too busy worrying about being victimised for being a straight white male to waste time on whether people like me riding a bike!

Oi Oi Craig, i feel proud in the way i dress!

I walked through brent cross shopping centre today, full leathers, black lid, black visor, gloves on. More or less like the stig or a bright red relative of mister ghost rider. The fact was that i felt virtually untouchable. That moment i felt like GOD!

You had all the norf weezey rood boys thinking about "i'll shank you bruv, not me, u bruv, i'll brap you with a gunshot to your medula oblognata" as they saw other kids. Me being me thought, fucking panzies, walked right through the middle of em. They just looked back shouting "oi biker boy", sly look back with a forward srugh of my head confirms "Don't fuck with me" - all talk. Obviously you had everybody in brent cross looking at me but so what, ain't they seen that done before. Little kiddies were amused to see mr leather and round hat man, security guards were confused. They told me to remove my helmet, i remain silent, pull out my keys and walk off to my bike and make and unresounding exit. I don't feel villianised. Just don't let it get to the back of your head.

I did feel a sense of relief when i filled up and the woman at the filling station thanked me for having the sense of decency and courtesy to remove my lid and get off the bike before filling. She said that she wishes there were more bikers like me. Karma

I say we sometimes shoot ourselves in the foot, but , most of the time, what are they to know about the sense, the rush, the passion that only a select few experience. If ever you get the occasional cunt that says anything negative about bikes, i've got 3 words for them "Fancy a ride?" and notice how their opinions quickly change! Thumbs Up It's just a thought, but i've changed the thoughts and opinions of a few of my old friends into liking bikes now.
