You can pick up an old GS550 for less than that - ebay is full of them right now. Might look a bit rough mind as lots seem to be painted by the 14th owner... but spares are cheap. In fact, if you have a van or trailer you could probably get another for spares too...

GS or CB500's, though most will be battered at that price. Are we talking under 500 quid for the budget? for around 500 to 700 you could probably find an older Divvy as well.

£500 Thinking You'd probably get two MZ 2-strokes. Not the fastest things in the world, certainly not the most fashionable but they'll get from A to B while he saves up for something fancier.

I would say for that money you can't limit yourself by model. You'll never find something specific for that money. Bikes aren't really like cars where you can find a roadworthy runner for about £300 that will get you from A to B.

I'd say any bike with a MOT which is roadworthy will be worth at least £500

Just search loot/friday ad/adtrader until you find something half decent for that money.

The old saying is apt here: You pays yer money you takes yer choice. Personally I'd try and stretch to £800 if you can, brings a lot more into the pricerange.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

for a fast sports bike come sports tourer, think suzuki rf600

for a general run around, something like a ttr250, or dr350 is good

offroad bikes which arent highly tuned, are good fun around town, with the bonus that you can also take them off road

completely impractical for long journeys or high speed though

You can really get a running CB1 for £500? I thought Dukan was a jammy whatsit for the price of his CB500.

A friend of ours recently picked up a GT450 or 550, some Kawasaki thing like that anyway, and put it on the road for less than £500.

Just watch the Buy It Now bikes on eBay between £450 and £500

I did that just now and found this CX 500

Not the sexiest Bike in the world but generally a solid machine with a supportive owners club. Parts are readily available and if our trike is anything to go by fun to ride...

I'm still thinking my CB1 was too good to be true.

1991 40k CB1, fair condition, years tax and MOT, sorted suspension, nearly new GPR100 tyres. £500.
