mornin'...
just how do you get the front end up on a smaller sized bike, my mtx 125 has a beastie power band, and i really dont want to flip it Confused , i've heard of dropping the revs then picking them up fast, but it only gets up bout half a foot. then i've heard of using the clutch.
any pointers would be great, i need to get one ever on my brother, he's been riding 2 years more than me, i was still in nappies when he started, anyway, he needs to be put in his place, you no how it is guys..
cheers

it's quite tricky to wheelie a 125 as they have no torque, so you'll have to roll along in first at like 5mph dip the clutch rev it and dump the clutch(still revving) and the bike should lunge forwards and upwards.

Start small and make sure you cover your rear brake.

Or just wait until you get a bigger bike, or buy a cheap 125 to practise on. DT125's are pretty good. There's a guy on here that can wheelie those easily....Dischord I think.

My 125 is easy to wheelie, as I kept making the front come up at traffic lights where I was letting the clutch out too quick and having too many revs. So I agree with Big_Ham, try using the clutch and shouldn't be hard from there to get the front up. Thumbs Up

Though I doubt you'd get it to wheelie very high

here's my guide, which seems to be slowly working with practice. Thumbs Up

ok, so your sat stationary on the bike, in neutral and all is clear(imagine your on a deserted industrial estate) you take a deep breath, pull the clutch in and clunk it in 1st.

let the clutch out slowly, applying no throttle so you are rolling along at less than 5mph, then you gently dab the throttle, to get a sense of where the power starts, and back off it again doing this repeatedly for a few mins then slow back to the crawl at 5.

Then when you are ready, gradually build up the revs, constantly or in a 'vroom, vrooom' fashion, so your confidence is starting to grow too(bet your shaking by this point!) then, when your bike is truly purring(or screaming near the redline).. release the clutch slowly, this will give the 'power surge' to lunge it forward and either causing you to back right off cos you think 'SHIT' or, if your good, you will feel the bike get a little lighter on the front, but not enough to do anything drastic and because you will be screaming it's nuts off in first the power/torque will become not as effective and the front will have a slight(almost unnoticeable) drop back to the ground. (covering back brake as much as possible incase)

But you will know when you have done it, you can just feel it, then when it sinks in, you will be driven to do it more, hence improving your skill, and confidence but also wanting to experiment and try to get it more 'refined', I will leave this up to you.

this is what I did on my bike(125) and am typing from recent experience, so if anyone wants to add creative input, feel free. Thumbs Up

good luck and safe practicing Karma

If you always cover the rear brake you will flip Wink

Use it and you might not.. but if you practice enough you'll flip it eventually.

Disagree mate, you don't need to crash to find out where the limit is. Not everyone needs to crash to learn.

although when you do it every day like Mr Sparks and start doing advanced stuff then you will.

Well thats what i meant.
When you want to get it to a high level your going to fall off.

Sorry for the misunderstanding mate

sorry, dis-agree, not everyone will fall off when they want to get it to a higher level, if they take their time, and are confident, they can get as highly skilled as they want, not necessarily involving coming off.
It's like your saying "if you gain confidence and skill, you will come off" sorry if that's not what you intended, but how I perceived it.

Again sorry, but it's usually the best attitude to have when doing it.
If you can't afford to bin it.
Don't bother!

You are so very wrong!

I got to a high-ish level before I dropped my bike, I was scraping the number plate before I first fell off.. but once you start trying to scrape the tail and doing other tricks, you WILL fall off no matter how slow you take the progress.. if you play with fire YOU WILL GET BURNT

It's stupid to believe that you won't fall off at some point, you will its just a matter of when, no need for it to put you off though, if you want to get good at it you'll fall off..

That said though, if you just want some wheelies on the roads on the sunday rideout, you may well get away without ever falling off.. but it's not a guarantee Wink
