Hey guys! Im new here but i was just wondering if there are many,if any, Irish bikers on this forum?? I'm 18 and insurance here for a category 3 bike is over €2k Im so jealous looking at all you guys with your insurance being in the three figure mark. Its ridiculous, dont you think?? And i suppose the fact that only one insurance company will actually insure bikes here doesnt help either ehh! |

i am from ireland as well but i moved to thailand because its crap i had the same problem when younger.
i even went as far as putting RS125 engine into a RD80 frame to get cheaper insurance.
I had a coulple of 400's as well which i didn't/couldn't insure had a small problem with a license as well anyway not recommended as things have got more strict since then.
have you looked into buying a bike in england and insuring it over there, if you know someone with an address. Otherwise you need to bite the bullet and get started on the ladder.
ps i paid 10 euros for 3rd party insurance in thailand for rvf 400 |

Hey Rolo - I'm from Ireland (Westmeath to be exact! ) Who did you get your quote from? I'm with Carole Nash, but I'm old (31) and have a full licence for two and a half years, so that does help with cheaper insurance, but I'm sure that there's more than them who give bike insurance - don't hold me to it, but I'm almost certain that Hibernian insure bikes and Axa too. When I first started biking, there was only one company who insured bikes here and that was Norwich Union.
Might be worthwhile asking around other places to hear if they quote bikes - oh just thought of another - AON but I've no idea how reasonable they are. I went with Carole Nash cos they gave the best deal. ____________________

i think all you need to do is have an english address and say you are visiting ireland,
my brother lives in uk and is always coming over with bikes/cars with uk cover, but as i said if you plan to stay biking in ireland you may as well get on the system ( no matter how screwed it is)
have fun |

Some of the nicest roads in Europe around Galway mate I'm from just outside Belfast myself.
I thought Carole Nash actually covered Irish as well as the UK? I may be wrong. I do know the breakdown cover, covers both UK and Ireland. I would have thought it would have been the same for the South.
Unless this is the company you're talking about but here is what seems to be the Irish website...
https://www.carolenash.ie/
Hope that helps you out mate, they give me a really good price for the Z and I'm 19 myself. Being 18 doesn't help matters and if you're comfortable going with third party only it may be worth thinking about.
It also depends on the bike obviously and you may find the smallest change on the proposal could change the price ____________________ Kawasaki Z1000 '05

Bazza you're right, carolenash do insure bikes in ireland, but the catch is you have to have been resident in the UK and must have obtained your license from the UK too
You say some of the best roads in Europe are in Galway? I doubt that to be honest, but cheers for the advice and stuff |

Rolo, as I said, I'm with Carole Nash and have never been a UK resident, nor have I got a UK license? I never had any hassle with getting a quote from them - might be worth giving them another call - 1800 298 551. ____________________
