Get an RGV, they're f*cking crazy and will lean till way after youve stopped wanting to lean over.
I had one for a short while. Whilst they're running they're ace. But they're a bit high maintenance with dodgy powervalves and a tendancy to eat piston rings. Then again if you're enthusiastic enough to do work, good luck to ya. They use that engine in the RS250's by the way for your future referance. Simple engine to strip and rebuild to their credit.
I think you could do alot worse. Big 4-strokes are the business but can get very rough if continuously red-lined in your quest for speed. Whereas a V-twin stroker like the RGV will love it, if maintained.
If you're gonna get one though mate, be very wary. There are some out there rougher than a geordie hookers armpit. And thats rough by the way
Also the fact some have been "re-built" is not always a good thing. MAke sure the person has receipts and it was done at a garage, not in his dads potting shed.
Happy hunting anyway fella
Ive fond memories of the one i had

One word (Dont!). Nah actually an RGV looks fine, especially in lucky strike colours, they handle really well, and are fun. But that motor reminds me of the title of an early Guns & Roses album! Its fine whilst its running, but who wants an engine that can drop its power valves into the cylinders at any moment. Some bike dealers wont touch them, and superbike engine tuner Tony Scott says its the most unreliable bike motor in existance. The RS250 has a suzuki based motor, but with different heads and barrels, and despite being more powerful, its also much more reliable than the RGV. I had a TZR250 the early parallel twin version, for a while and i reckon that even though its well dated now it was the best 250 sports stroker, and one of the most reliable. The NSR250 is expensive but nice, and i reckon it would be far more reliable than your average RGV, as would an RS250, and even probably a half decent KR1S and thats really saying something!
(Remember its not a question of if it goes bang, but when!) |
