Ok so we all know the 'bikers nod' but what does it actually mean?
Did it come from somewhere? Does anyone know when it came about?

Something everyone does (almost) but what does it actually mean?

It's like the Mini Wave, or the Trucker's Thumb. You are greeting a fellow traveller, acknowledging that you understand what attracts them to their chosen method of transport, and that you feel some kinship.

before i owned a bike, I allways called it the "gay biker nod club" Very Happy

and i used to put me head out the car window to try and get bikers to nod, when i got me bike me missus said oh you can be part of the gay biker nod club now.

I said NO FUCKING WAY!, any way the first time some one nodded, i couldnt stop meself nodding back, now i get a sore neck nodding all time! Very Happy And i actually think "ignorant shit" when harley riders and the likes dont nod back.

sorry for rambling, but I have no clue what its meant for, but i do know it just feels like a bit of an exclusive club that car drivers aint part of Razz lol

cheers Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I regard the nod as a sign of respect towards a fellow human that dared to go against the government and pass the almost unpassable bike test to become a biker. Laughing

And if the time of year is sep-march its a nod of respect to a proper biker Wink

I've always thought it was an 'alright' thing, just wondered what everyone elses thoughts were.

I guess it does make you feel like your a part of something.

Don't do Harleys(most have been ignorant cnuts), most scoot's don't get the concept, and most big bikes go too fast to warrant taking their eye's off the road

Getting a nod back makes the rest of my ride just that little more enjoyable.

When ignorant riders don't nod back I feel really stupid... I must look like I have a twitch or something.

Though I've noticed, the slower you do it, the cooler you are (has to be to the side too of course).

ever get it when you're wandering along, see a bike go past, and either nod, then feel like a twat, or wait expectantly for them to nod at you, then realise you're not on a bike, and feel like a twat?

oh, no, just me then...

Ignor the other posters, they are trying to get you into trouble.
The nod is a gay thing, your fellow biker is asking if he can arse fuck you. Nod back and you say yes.

I am like the Queen, I wave and nod at everything. Bikers, ped boys, pretty girls, horses, dogs, gay lads on Harleys, if it moves I wave.

I still need to work on mine - I look a bit spazzy, like I'm trying to shake a bee out of my visor or summit... Embarassed Laughing

The Nod is one of my favourite things about riding, along with filtering (and shouting 'SEE YA LOOOOOOSERS!!! at the cars I pass Laughing ), the engine braking sound...and leather Twisted Evil

Weekdays I'll nod if nodded at. Apart from a couple of regulars that I see everyday.

Weekends everyone seems to nod their heads off.
