How gutted am I. I got caught doing at least 40mph in a 30mph zone. Fully my fault I know, I got no way to defend myself Razz

Was 1am in the morning and I was riding along a very familular road. I go down that road atleast 3 times a week. Sadly this time they installed a new speed camera(Sometime in the afternoon or the day before i'm assuming). Me not knowing just kept going at my 40mph speed and got zapped. Not happy.

As i'm on my CBT Licence still, what does this mean? As now I should have 3 points on my licence(I got roughly another 9 days before I get a fine and a letter)

I hear that sometimes fines and points never get issued, this is proberly a myth but i'm keeping my hopes up that I don't get a letter through the post in the next 9 days.

You can get 12 points on a provisional license.

I think its 6 months they can take to send you the fine but dont quote me on that.

Did you get flashed from the front?

Yeah they flashed me when I was about 10-15 meters from the speed camera itself. It flashed like twice, one and about a second later another. I checked my mirrors while passing the camera but they didn't flash me while passing or when I had passed.

6 months? Thats a long time, should I hear some notice sooner to whether it happened or not?

What happens after 12 points? Will I have to redo my CBT or something? Do they stick til my full licence.

You have 14days to receive a NIP.

But I think they have 6months to charge you or take you to court or something. So even if you don't receive it, if they proove they posted it, then that's fine in the eyes of the law.

Them posting it is as good as you receiving it.

You may never get a nip, I've been flashed before and heard nothing.

Lesson learned eh mate.

If you were on your bike then how will they get you for anything?

They CAN take up to 6 months - your not safe til then....

After 12 points on a provisional you get banned, on a full license you can only get 6 points in the first 2 years then thats a ban too.

So you could be in the situation where you cant take your full test because you'll get instantly banned.

If you were going towards the camera and you were on your bike then your "safe" Thumbs Up

If it's a standard gatso speed camera, you can't be done going towards them, even in a car with a front numberplate.

The camera flashed when I was riding towards the camera. Am I safe because the number plate is only on the back of the bike?

I see my sence of humour isn't appreciated. I'll quit it Razz

So, erm back to the speed camera flashing before I got even close to the camera stand itself. Does that mean it only caught front footage of my bike, meaning no number plate shot, meaning i'm in the clear? Even if it did get back footage(100% possitive it didn't flash once I passed the camera), i'll find out if i've been caught in about 9 days via letter.

If they don't have you number plate, they don't know who's bike it is, so they don't know who you are and they don't have anywhere to send a NIP.

So assuming what you say is correct, you're in the clear Thumbs Up .

Gatso can't flash oncoming traffic in order to prosecute them, hence why Truvelo (forward facing cameras) use infared.

Go to the camera, see what way its pointing, see if its a Gatso.

If you were travelling towards it, and its a standard Gatso, even in a car you CANNOT be prosecuted.

Simple as that.

I've set one off on the A1 going to Scotland at above a speed above the limit, still waiting 3yrs on to be prosecuted so what I am saying is correct. Also set one off in Sunderland doing the same as you 40 in a 30 going towards it.

I know a number of people who do this on purpose to waste the cameras film too.

Ok. I'll check out the camera as soon as possible. This is what I saw on the camera as I rode towards it and flashed at me (Not the actual photo of the camera, just someone I found online to describe the direction of the camera as I rode towards it), https://www.birties.co.uk/gatso/gatso_files/forth_burn-_1_larger.jpg

Was it burnt like that? Laughing Hope so!

If it flashed BEFORE you got to it and NOT AFTER then you are 100% in the clear. Thumbs Up .

jus while we'r on the subject of speed cameras, there are a few things I don't get. When they were first introduced it was simple, u ride across the road markings over the speed limit and u get zapped. But now some of the cameras faces towards you and the road markings are behind the camera where it can't see you. Whats all that about Shocked ?
