Hey guys, as you know iv just bought me a ZX6R J2 and i was wondering how far id be able to go on a tank full of petrol as id like to go to work on the new girl on fridays, problem is its a 124 mile round trip.........my mate reckons if i do between 40 - 60mph i could prob get 100 - 120 miles but i know i wouldnt be able to stick to that and would more likely be doing 70 - 80mph.

Help please !!! Praying

You'll probably get 120 before reserve.

You'll make it, even at good speeds. Wink

With an 18 litre fuel tank (I think), you'll make it comfortably. I've got a '99 Thundercat and on my 39 mile (each way) commute at motorway speeds Wink , I run 2 days (160ish miles) between fill ups and put in about 14 litres of fuel. When I was using it for my previous commute, 10 miles of twisties and town driving I'd fill up every 160 miles (usually about the time it switched to reserve at 16 litres gone).

ANyone tested the bandit 600?
No Gage, I fill up every other day and leave it on reserve all the time - defeats the object really i know.

Close enough to twice what you will make on a half a tank

I'm intrigued as to why you don't use the reserve option? It's just asking to run out of fuel one day isn't it?

I'm a little dippy, but I almost always ride right up to the end of the tank and have to switch to the reseve. There is no gauge on my bike either, but I do know I can get to just under 180km on the trip counter before the main tank runs dry. If I left it on reserve all the time I'd have a Platinum AA loyalty card!

On my J1 ZX6R general riding I could get about 140miles to a tank, so you'll make it easily.

O once didnt realise I'd left it on reserve and it got to 170 odd before conking out. Luckily there was a petrol station across the road!

It really depends on the nature of your commute. The more time you spend in top gear, the more mpg you get. If there is a lot of traffic with stops and starts you will find a big difference.

My CBR600 returns about 50mpg when I am on a long journey, mostly in top, and about 35-40mpg when there is a lot of town riding, with gear changing.

The average tank holds about 4 gallons including reserve, so 3 X 50 = 150; 3 X 35 = 105.

My RV125 Van Van has only got like a 4liter gastank. So I can do 70ish on the main tank and another 20 on the reserve. Not bad as it costs me like £4 to fill up the entire tank Very Happy Including reserve.

I get about 110-120 before reserve on a '99 R6 when commuting (70% A roads / 30% town)

140 before hitting reserve on the 600, if I ride it conservatively. Blatting around will give me 110 before I have to hit the switch.

On the 4, about 100.

100 on main, 20 on reserve, mostly top-gear 60+ mph. This is on a Hornet 600S with 16ltr tank.

I ran out of petrol on my 125 once and couldnt find the reserve.
Doing 70 3 lanes of heavy trafic and couldnt get across. Kinda woried about being shunted up the arse.
Now I fill up everyday, but I think next time I got to Brighton take a bottle spare of full - fill my tank and see how far i run

I don't understand, how did you not find reserve. You know where your fuel tap is right? just turn that round?

If you run on reserve all the time, you could run out of fuel in the same place, and have no back up.

Just do some riding where you swap between on and reserve repeatedly, you'll get the hang of it.

Well you should really spend a valuable couple of minutes sitting on your bike at home practicing reaching for the fuel tap from the riding position. It won't take long and you'll be able to do it no problem while riding.

It'll definitely be worth it for the future

210-240 on the Varadero doing motorways about 180-200 on the back roads. Can go out for a days riding and not really need to think about petrol.

I have had 2 J1 model ZX6r's. First one was standard.

~186.4 miles sat at 60mph on the motorway before I pulled in for petrol. I hadn't even switched it to reserve, I just chickened out. Average 64mpg.

On my current ninja, I can sit at 80-10mph and achieve 60mpg. That is with K&N, race can and Dynojet stage 1.

I shit you not. Thumbs Up All motorway miles though.

If I ride VERY conservatively on the motoway, I reckon I could touch on 70mpg and over 200 miles before reserve. Smile It's one the main reasons I got another J1. Their fuel efficiency can be superb.

The J2 will get you about 148 miles under normal road riding before you have to engage the reserve.....

You're riding from Lincoln to where exactly? There's not exactly a shortage of petrol stations along the A46, and getting out of them and back onto the road again on a ZX6R isn't going to be hard either, is it?!
