My cat won't drink any water.
She bolts whenever you turn the tap on, or whenever water drops from the sink or whatever.

Anyway, we're getting a little bit worried because regardless of how many saucers of water we put out there, she'll never drink.
We have tried saucers and bowls and we have tried mineral and tap water, but she won't drink any.

We didn't worry until we saw her on the sink earlier lapping some water up from a little puddle on the side.

She eats wet food but she has little sprinkles of dry over the top.
How can we get her to drink? Is this normal or should we worry?

Sounds perfectly normal.

If the cat needs water, then it'll drink water.

Hi

None of ours will touch water put down for them. Dirty puddle, mist covered bathroom wall, remains of a cup of tea,etc they will go for.

But then they are odd. One loves eating cheese and another has been known to scrounge lime flavoured Doritos.

All the best

Keith

cats prefer mucky water believe it or not, although i feed mine dry food so they do drink from the bowl, wet food contains enough water which is why they dont appear to actually drink much if at all.

Do you have a Bengal cat. Ours loves water and will sit on the draining board moaning until the tap is turned on.

I've never known a cat drink from the water you put down for it. Ours used to drink either from the toilet, the saucers round plant pots or the waterbutt on the shed roof guttering.

If it wasn't drinking it would be dead within a few days so don't worry, it is getting sufficient water from somewhere.

Apparently these waterfall things are popular for indoor cats, plugs into the wall and has constantly running water:

That said, if it is thirsty enough, it'll drink what it can get.

sounds normal to me. but if you've got a bengal like mine, they are really odd, they like to play in and with water. when mine was little she used to play with running taps and would try to find her way under the closed lid every time i flushed the toilet..........until one day i left the lid up and flushed it, and she dived in head first and nearly drowned. Rolling Eyes

ive got one of her kittens and hes a cross so hes not quite so keen, but he still managed to clear both my neighbours ponds of fish Laughing

My cat did drink at home for about 6 months but after that he preferred the bird bath Confused

If your cat's not looking ill and is eating fine it must be getting water from elsewhere Smile

Our first cat used to drink from taps, the second would stick her paw under a dripping tap and then lick that. Current cat will only drink water thats been sat for a few days and is quite deep, we have a 1kg flora container down for him. Doesnt drink a lot but maybe once a week you'll catch him drinking from it.

Ors drink from the pond or puddles on the floor. Sometimes if there's a saucer outside, after its been raining they'll drink out of that.

I had the same concern with my cat. Feeding them Iams can help as it makes them thirsty and encourages them to drink. Sprinkling water on their wet food can also help.

The reason cats don't like fresh tap water is because even though we can't smell it, tap water reeks of chemicals from the treatment plants. Cats little noses are far more sensitive to this than ours so they see fresh water being a bit off. Thats why they'll drink toilet water since its been sitting for a while and the smell has worn off.

A vet once told me that cats also seem to preffer drinking from a glass bowl....having tried this I can vouch for it....Max will always drink from a pint glass rather than his bowl.

Oh yes and I've seen max eat the mushrooms from my my italianl Laughing

Just make sure you remove any inebriating liquid from said pint glass before letting the smoggle drink out of it! Laughing

Cats are funny things.

Our older cat rarely drinks anything, McJam saw her drinking the other day for the first time in months - it was such an exciting event!

Our other cat has a water obsession! She sits on the side of the bath when we are in it or in the shower, she gets in the sink when we're brushing our teeth and she will happily get drenched. She's a right odd-ball.

LOL exactly the same as my cat (pic in my avatar), except she'll actually jump in the bath when I'm having one.

My girlfriend calls her a rat. I guess it's something to do with rats and sewers? Hehe. Our other cat is just like yours, which I can't remember the last time I saw him drink.

Cats, eh! Funny things.

Our cat rarely drinks from the water put down for him.

At home, he used to drink from a tap in the conservatory.

Now he won't drink from anything other than a small margarine tub that has been put in the bath. He won't drink from it if it's not in the bath! Shocked

Strange beings!
