Problems with the laptop....

seems to be messing up alot. Started last night while on msn all of a sudden they only keys on the keyboard were 'a' 'e' 'i' 'o' 'u' but they were comming up with the little french markings at the top.

Came off the net and it sorted itself. Did a spywear check and it removed some dodgy cookies. Did a re-start but then the problem came back

Today its still there, when i try to double click a file it opens up the properties box, also lost ctrl alt delete for abit but that came back.

downloaded various checkers such as some sort of stuner and also AVG EWIDO

that found another 140 dodgy cookies and deleted them.

Still to no prevail. When i re-boot i either get...

un-able to type at all, but instead its like shortcuts
a e i o u work in the french style only
double clikcing on a shortcut opens up the properties file
no ctrl alt delete

I'm running Windows XP service pack 2

Is driving me nuts! Anyone have any ideas?

Using the home pc. I've managed to save some of my files on to an external harddrive. I'm going to try a complete restore back to factory settings. If that doesn't work then surely its hardware? and then im screwed as its no longer under warrenty

Doh! It better not be - the laptop is currently mid recovery.

But it sounds like it could be something that simple

Shame I didn't read it earlier, unlucky mate, get some compressed air under the key and tap it a few times to free it up anyway.

I thought you knew about computers N30? Wink

Think i'll just pull the key out and throw it in the bin lol.

Will pull it up, give it a quick dust.... hopefully bobs your uncle and all that....

71% through recovery though. Being abit cautious, i thought i'd do a non-destructive recovery first so hopefully haven't lost anything. If that didn't work i was going to do the complete factory reset one.
