the first ty only does just under 40 as it is completely standard, but the second has a played with ty80 motor and has been speed trapped at 72.

the 1st ty is a 1977 model and will be on show at the South West Bike show may 5/6 Shepton Mallet, the second a 1976 is still under production as ive had a few problems getting parts i cant get the handlebar indicator clamps or the rear wheel pedal drive gear, not that either stop it working, but im trying to get it as close to right as possible.

One day I will convince the missus that it is a worthwhile pastime - spending hours in my garage doing up a bike that I used to own in my teens.
I used to have:
FSIE (at least 4) - both pedal ones and footrest - even had the later DX model with disc front.
AP50 (x2) - ugly beast but I swear it was faster than my fizzies. (well the one I chucked an AP100 engine in was - rozzers never knew a thing) Smile
TY50 - but a real mess.
Gilera 50 Enduro Bike - my fave cos I built it up from a wreck at the age of 15 and it was my first ride on the road at 16.

Then I became one of the bigboys and got an LC Smile

Any chance I can come round your way and have a ride on the fizzys Smile would make a dream come true.

Bit like me then silky
started on a Gold SS 50 no not the honda yamaha had to change the name to fs1e because honda complained. so a very early fs1e, which i rode into the ground ( but didnt we all ) then i traded it in for a Suzuki A50p ( not a ap50 as many call them as a ap50 is a little step through scooter )till i was 17 then had a RD250c the first coffin tank one. which i dumped onto Pound Pill Bridge at 80ish, but still rode to neston club to see the then girlfreind, with bent forks frame and a total wreck, but it still went, after that ive had so many bikes it would bore you sensless a list,
but as with a lot of bikers we started the same way, i couldnt afford the TY when it first came out so that why i had a older fs1e but now i must be greedy as ive both,

you are of course right - it was A50P (or PD for the disc one I think).
but we just called them AP's.
Did the first fs1e have a higher level exaust then ? like the ss50 ? and look roughly the same as the ss50 ?
I always thought I had the first fs1e as it had pedals that you locked.

As with most things I owned in the 70's / 80's - I wish I had kept most of it Smile
Especially my Gilera - that was quick - truly un-restricted and beat every fs1e and ap in Surrey.

I'm making rearsets. Wink

When it was on the road a few years ago I was clocked by several people at 70ish mph. It is far from standard.

Blows up a bit too often though Rolling Eyes

My dad used to trials a TY (I think it was a TY175?) He said it was great!
I love that ss50, that's so cool, reminds me of my Sachs Madass days. I was cool and put a 110cc pit bike motor in it (The rozzers didn't have a clue either even after close inspection) haha
Good work people
Joe

Also Garth, what have you done to the engine? Anything near 70mph for them motors is pretty good. I love what the Germans do to the honda nice engines (could you not slip on of them in there?) they fly!

the bike the fs1e was based on did have a upswept exhaust. but it wasnt a fs1e in fact it was a dutch idea to put pedals on the little yams but it caught on like sh*t to a shovel here.

the gilera was quite quick but it had 1 serious down fall if the back light blew the bike stopped as the rear light bulb was also the fuse, weird but true.

and maybe it could take a struggling fs1e on but a a50p i doubt now if your talking about fast 70s mopeds then the king was the fantic GT which promised to do 65, and when it was going right could.

Bored to 88cc, High compression piston, Kitaco ultra high lift racing cam, self advancing ignition, 22mm carb, changed gearing running through a 5 speed box. Oh and stiffer clutch springs.

I do have an oil cooler I need to adapt and fit.

So far it has lunched a piston and the big ends. Now the valve guides are fucked too. Happy days.
