Don't really want to go into full detail yet still feeling a bit shaky!
Basically I was at a junction going to the right and a car came down the road a bit too fast and nearly went into the side of me. Instead of braking when he saw me traveling across the road he just pressed his horn... stupidly my first instinct was to slam on my breaks Rolling Eyes but then I sped the hell out of the way! Think he missed me by an inch (that's what it felt like!).
_|_
| <- cross junction, I was at bottom turning right he was at top coming straight down. I was half way across when he came around a corner and into the junction.
Have been told I should have waited until the van in front of me was off the yellow grid then pulled into the right. Since I've never seen anyone do one at a time at junctions before I didn't know this Confused (only did CBT 2 weeks ago so still very green when it comes to roads Razz )
Anyway, advice time! Smile
Should I get back on the bike? Right now I really don't want to. Should I force myself to or just calm down and leave it till tomorrow?
Obviously this has happened to people before and was wondering what others have done.
I know on a scale this is hardly anything Razz but need to talk about it. Can't tell family for obvious reasons and mates would just do the I told you so routine Rolling Eyes .

Hi, I would say if the weathers still nice, have a cuppa and go for a relaxing ride, and get to grips with the bike again.

Glad everythings o.k. Thumbs Up

Glad you're ok!

Do me a favour and say "near miss" though. Wink My heart sinks whenever the word "crash" appears on board.

Book a lesson asap and get your instructor to take you through the junction properly. Forget going back out tonight. Accidents always happen after your mum shouts you in for dinner and you've begged for another 5mins.

Don't tell the family anything, that's what forum's for!

You shouldn't enter a yellow grid until it's clear the other side.
It may be the yellow grid was there to ensure this sort of thing doesn't happen.
Seems to some degree the car was in the 'right', so they probably realised they could make it safely and decided to 'scare' you a bit to be nasty.

At least you did the right thing and speeded up after braking Thumbs Up.

Go out for a nice (to start with) gentle ride tomorrow and get some confidence back if you're feeling a bit shaky.

Sorry Rhone didn't mean to scare you Razz
Would book a lesson but I have hardly any money as it is (I'm on £50 a week training money) this mostly goes on petrol and food. The rest gets saved for future lessons when I decide to go for my full license.
Yea decided I won't be going on the bike tonight. Am baby sitting anyway. Will walk there, should do me some good! Razz

Go out and have a nice ride and calm yourself down.
Learn from what happened.
The car driver was a nob, sounding the horn is to make you awair of the cars presence not to shoo you away.
You knew he was there anyway so why do it? If you still have plates on they act as a warning to other road users and they should show consideration and tolerance not scare you into making a mistake.
Now go out and have a pootle

Nicky...How about taking yourself for a ride early tomorrow before the roads get to busy...

Whenever I make mistakes or am unsure of something... where possible, I usually revisit the scene and repeat the manoevre until I am happy about it. Dont get hung up about that junction...get out there and crack it.

Brush up on the highway code too....cos I know its very limited what they tell you on CBT. I have been driving cars for more years than I care to remember and I still come across things that I am unsure about.

but they don't ariel, generally I have to find tolerance for them. Rolling Eyes and nicky, tomorrow go for a nice calm ride, and make sure that junctions somewhere in your route, you can't be put off by one nob Thumbs Up

try riding with a more experienced mate, and discussing each others riding style, could help you learn a lot. just make sure your not playing catch up and rushing to keep up with you mate

Just take it easy for now, you'll feel fine in the morning. Everyone has the occasional near miss and learns from it. Good idea about learning stuff from a more experienced mate.

To be blunt, get used to it, some bastard will have a go almost every day you go out.

I commute 200 miles a day, if I let it get to me i'de be a nervouse reck.

I did start a thread with daily occurences but it got laborouse

eg, With cog head on the pillion on thursday I found myself knocking on a cars window at 90mph on the M1 to allert her to my presense before she pushed us into the central barrier, every day stuff i'm afraid.

It's dealing with that shit that makes two wheelers more astute road users.

Happy days! Thumbs Up

Its all a learning curve Very Happy

Fell off when i was on L plates, had lots of near misses.. you learn from your mistakes.

Way i look at it, any bad / sht experience you have, think about why it happened and dont bloody do it again. Like when i leant agressivly on my XR125 in the wet.. was only doing 10mph but it was still a lesson.

If that didnt happen I would have done that on my 650cc bike doing 60mph.

Good thing i think Thumbs Up

Might go on the bike today. Does depend on my old man, he's supposed to be adjusting my valves and re-attaching my horn amongst other stuff... yes it has been said my bike is a death trap Laughing

I was expecting every car to be a bastard but so far cars have been really tolerant towards me. (maybe the bubble gum pink jacket? Razz ) so it kind of lulled me into a sense of security type thing. Maybe the little scare was a good thing, I won't be so relaxed and be more aware now Thumbs Up

Will have to. I drive through Caersalem (if that's how it's spelt) nearly every morning on my way to work, though I go straight through it normally not turn to the right.

Laughing I currently don't have a horn to beep with! But I'll find some other way to get your attention Thumbs Up Laughing
I try to not stick to swansea too much, traffic is awful and I'm still not confident enough to filter Sad Tried the other day but murphys law decided that while I was half way towards the front (in a long que) the light went green. Managed to squeeze in front of a grumpy old man despite him being determined to not let me in! Mad
Think I'll leave it a while before my next attempt Wink

Swansea is horrible to ride around in general, I still get a little nervous round the town, and i've been riding for quite a while now. Its important to get back on the bike though, i recommend riding out to the country, where you have time to chill out, relax and work on "bringing it all together", so you and the bike flow together. When its like that i find that i always have time for everything, and rarely have hairy moments!

Do you know any good roads near here?
Only country part I know about is Rhydypandy way (however it's spelt! Razz ) but I hate it because it's mostly national speed limit past the Masons and their all bombing around the corners (cars).

A crash in my book is something you are stretchered away from OR the bike is totaled.

Anyhow after a spill, my first reaction is to jump up and kill the engine as I’ve seized couple of the f*ckers when I was too slow picking myself out of the dirt and they kept running on their sides.

Then I do a quick inspection, make sure I don’t have any broken bones, clean off the gravel and jump back on and NAIL it.

The best 2 bits of advice in this thread are

1/ Get back on your bike and go for a ride.

2/ Read the Highway code, and then read it again - I hate to say it but even if the car was speeding, you did pull out into it's path.

And also, relax - If you aren't confident to filter yet, then don't - I hardly filter and I've been riding since November (Yes I know it's not ages but I ride in and around Cardiff on the way to/from work).
