CBR600 Good deal or not?.
Good deal or not after a semi lengthy haggle (I managed to move a sellers price woohoo!), its sort of like TobyR's but alot cheaper, £600 cheaper..
CBR600 FX 1999 model 25.9K on clocks , FSH up to 19500 miles then service history goes
blank,
All MOT certs to verify miles
C&S good
forks ok not leaking,
Engine sounds ok , no rattly cam chain (like his other H reg CBR6 that one was 600 though)
Engine has its orginal finish on it , not the salty peeling kind I see all the time,
Stainless (well it wasn't magnetic as per Stinky's evaluation of Stainless steel) zorst down pipes
no rust anywhere but side and centre stand,
std can,
HISS equipped (whats HISS?)
13Months MOT yes 13 months the new computerised MOT system means that presentation of old MOT
certs is unecessary and doing it before , extends the MOT to the date it was due.
7 months tax left
tyres have enourmous chicken strips on them, and appear to be Conti road attacks with at least 3.5mm on
the front and 4mm on the back.
he wanted £2100 for it I cash £1800 he said £1975 , I said £1850 , he said £1900 , I said I'll be
back,if I'm going to buy it I'm going to bring him £1875 and not a penny more.
bad points:
Right indy fairing area is cracked , see pic , and I managed to accidentally delete my other photos
A = minor scuff about the size of a 2p piece
B = light scuff all way round the crank case cover
C = 3cm long 1cm wide scuff
no rear hugger,
std rubber hoses
its been down on the right , at a slowish speed
Rather thin pads on the front
5 Owners , which sort of worries me, a bit and it putting me off
Any thoughts? I've seen other CBR600 FX's with 80K on the clocks for £2400 , and a lower undamaged
CBR6 FX @ 36K for £2600.
Any thoughts?

Sounds good except for the lack of rear hugger. Do they not come with a hugger as standard? If they do, why would someone take it off? |

I had one of these a few years ago. It had been a CAT D on cosmetics. Had a scratch on the right hand fairing and a damaged infill by the time I got it. Had been kept outside so it had rusting on the lower yoke thingy. Had covered 6000 miles, was a 2000 and had no service history. I paid 2100 for it and that was three or four years ago.
I think to get one sub 2k (these bikes still fetch an amazing price when you think about it lol) is a good deal. The mileage shouldnt be a problem.
I wouldnt worry too much about the damage as mine had been over plenty of times and was always ok. Just look for things that are going to piss you off in a few months, knackered fairing bolts, missing clips, that bloody cam chain tensioner, switchgear and soggy rear shock.
No hugger as standard, just a chain guard like other bikes I think

sounds like a good deal matey. Mine's a black and yellow F-Y with 12,000 miles on the clocks. Cost me £3000 altogether. It did come with a hugger but it does have a nice chunk missing out the left hand side. I dont know if the last owner got a nail or something in his tyre that came round and gave the hugger a big thump ____________________ Current bike: CBR600F-Y |

Erm CBR6 is fave currently , I'm going to HPI it tommorow and after work go round his house to put down a deposit if the HPI comes back clean (or is this sort of an over reaction ie HPI to a fairly old bike?).
He does say hes going to have a GSXR '99 SRAD in on Tuesday though. just finding a time to go up there he was busy today. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
