Hey,

I thought it was about time I did my practical test so I booked it up for 28th April (Next Sat). I have been riding for quite a while with L's so im not going to take any lessons. Out of interest I called the nearest training place to ask about a lesson and it was £135!

Anyway, apart from wishing me luck Wink, any little tips for the test? I have the DSA book and I have been practicing my 'test riding' for the last few days and it seems to be going pretty well. Just curious if there are any little things to look out for.

Cheers.

Thanks guys.

I have been practicing the U Turn quite a bit and its going well. Just hoping for a decent road on the test for it Cool.

Good luck with your test aswell Steve.

Edit: Just thought of something to ask Wink. At the moment whenever I make a left/right turn I use this sequence:

Mirror check
Indicate left/right
Slow down and change position
Lifesaver left/right
Make the turn

Is this correct?

Left foot down, right foot on rear brake at junctions.

Allow room when pulling up behind stationary vehicles at traffic lights.

remember a quick lifesaver when going round parked vehicles and as you pull back to your normal position.

Be relaxed and concentrate on what you are doing and you will be fine. Thumbs Up

£135 for a lesson thats steep.

When I did my test a couple of years ago, I paid £15 for a 1 hour lesson using my own bike. This is up North though.

To be honest I would recommend it, I did a couple of lessons and passed first time. If I hadn't had done them i'd have failed. The instructor took me on test routes and showed me places the examiner "likes" to fail people on.

There is 1 very very trick junction, which you think you need to signal left then right. But infact its a staggered straight ahead where you don't need to signal. He showed me exactly what I needed to do (and I had been driving for 15 years!!!!). So I would strongley suggest just a couple of lessons at least.

One tip on your test, listen for what your examiner is saying. There will be hints. Like when he says I want you to go straight forward, you know then its not a signal left than right (ie my funny junction).

Also make it well known you are looking in your mirrors, its easier to do an emergency stop at 28 than at 30, use all fingers on your leavers, follow totally the highway code, when he says pull over somewhere safe, make sure its not on yellows etc, practice using centre stand and side stand and when you are doing the turn in the road (ie when your pushing it not the U), make sure you look all over.

Good luck.

Yeah, £135 was too much for me. I think I can pass without the lessons hopefully. I just need to focus and make sure I dont do anything stupid and make a mistake. I have been to the test centre and I know the area around it because I have friends that live there so I should be okay. There is one long stretch of road in the area where the speed limit changes 3 times from 30 to 40 to 30. Something I noted for my test Wink.

And hey! If I fail then at least it will still be cheaper (for me) than taking a lesson Cool.

If you do the right signal/mirror/lifesavers in the right place and nail the U turn, emergency stop and hill start then you will pass.

Its not as hard as i thought it would be.

Good luck and practice u turns Thumbs Up

Cheers
John
