Went out for a tootle today around bits of lincoln I had yet to explore..

kinda wish I hadn't

tootling through town I checked the signpost and wanted to turn left, so I wait in the que then turn left as the lane says and the sign says.. Fek! all the cars are coming at me... erm Embarassed balls...

So I pull into the gutter, hoping one will stop (they would have to stop for the red light just behind me anyway) no... the taxi pulls right next to me, winds his window down ''ya can't come up ere mate, it's a one way''

Rolling Eyes no shit I was hoping you'd stop and leave me space to turn...
he carrie son rambling, ''it's a one way see ( heard the first time)'' as he points at the back of a sign (what good is a one way sign after you've turned into the road?! Confused

the car behind him had sense to leave a space, so I ignore the babbling taxi driver and turn around.. filter to the front and go ...erm left

Wasn't my fault honest, I did a loop back around to check the signposts.. there isnt a single one saying no left turn...the lane markings even says turn left!!! Brick Wall

good job I was on a bike not in a car.

Reason for posting:
is there any fine I could receive for such a mistake as there was a camera there.. and the taxi numpty pointed to a CCTV one on a pole too...

you shouldn't get fined if as you say the lane marking said you could turn left, if you get anything through, get pictures and contest it, they will soon drop it Very Happy

My favourites are the arrows on the road when theres more than one lane. Im not very confident in places I dont know for a start and Im rubbish at directions. I often end up with two lanes both with arrows pointing forwards. Its always my lane that turns into a turn right arrow 50yds later or the lane just dissappears. Not so bad on the bike but an absolute pain in the car especially when you drive a BMW and everyone on the road hates you 'F*cking BMW drivers'!

I was in the car yesterday driving to Manchester and came across a green traffic light with a red one a yard behind it, both pointing in exactly the same direction. I slowed down whilst I double checked it was safe to go through, to be greeted by a load of car horns, presumably locals that understood it :/

For the past 8 years of driving I've never managed to turn down into a wrong way street. And a few months ago I would have thought you'd have to be bloody stupid to manage it.

But now I can fully sympathize. After I passed my test I was sent, unaccompanied, to take the bike back to the training school. I'd never driven round the area before in my life (apart from the test) and I was following the signs. I was running on adrenaline and excitement after passing the test and after seeing a sign directing me right I quickly turned down the next right turn... There were three lanes of oncoming traffic coming my way with nowhere to escape to - what went through my head was something like: "OH MY GOD YOU F'IN IDIOT YOU'VE BLOODY TURNED DOWN A ONE WAY STREET!"

I dived for the gutter, jumped off the bike and feigned an engine issue. I pretended to look puzzled at the engine for a min (I don't know why, but the rouse made me feel less embarrassed). Then I walked the bike down the road to the first side road.

I'm sure you'll be ok and escape any penalties... Were there No entry signs at the end of the road? As there are a junctions around here that have left turn filters for roads ahead which pass side roads with No entry signs before the junction.

Looks like one is a set of "proper" lights and the other is a pedestrian/cycle lane crossing?

Possibly, but it was a full size, normal looking traffic light pointing the same direction as the one in front. Confused me for a few seconds anyway Laughing

There are lots of traffic lights like this in Lincoln, near the uni library there are three 5 sets of traffic lights within 150yard of each other, and they all change independantly so you get stopped by each set.. coming off a roundabout which has 3 of it's own sets on it and 4 sets to get on it Shocked ..nightmare!
