Just a quick one: If I had a load of First Class stamps, could I go to the Post Office and trade them in for cash? I've looked on Google, but nothing specific has popped up. Thumbs Up Karma

Dunno about going into the post office and changing them, they might be abit suspicous if you had loads.

But I know stamps are legal tender.

That's why I'm confused - they are legal tender, shops can choose to accept them if they wish. So there must be a way to turn them into another sort of legal tender - money! I'm talking about around 400 First Class, in books of 100. Nothing more than the average business might have lying around, about £112's worth.

All you can do is go in and ask if they'll allow exchange?

Sent them an email question as well. My issue is, ideally I want a definitive answer before I have to decide to buy them!

So, are you going to buy a pile of 1st class stamps, wait for the price to go up, then sell them back?

Or is someone offering you a pile of slightly warm goods? Smile

Whether they're 'warm' or not I don't know, but they are cheap, less than half the value. Wink

Well, I do know that postal orders come in multiples of five pounds and if you wanted to send someone say £12.50 you'd buy a £10 postal order and stick £2.50 worth of stamps on it. You can redeem this for cash at the PO or pay it into your bank like a cheque.

Yeah, I would just buy a load of £5 postal orders and stick £4.76 worth of stamps on there, but they cost money! Still, worth thinking about I suppose...

Wasn't really suggesting you did that, just that it implies they have a redeemable cash value.

Nah, it's an eBay auction. I was watching The Office earlier, when they're talking about stamps being legal tender. It occurred to me that if I could find someone on eBay selling off a load of stamps who didn't know you could cash them in, I could make an easy few quid. So I looked and there's one auction, so I put in a decent bid. If it turns out I can't cash them in, I'll either resell them or have enough stamps for a decade. Laughing

Why don't you just exchange stamps for sex? You could stick them to your willy and deliver a royal shafting.

Because unlike you, I don't have to pay for sex, with money or stamps. Razz

I guess the speed of the internet isn't quite that good, and the signal's only just reached New Zealand after 6 years.
