Do these guys have any actual policing powers?

They set up a rolling roadblock today on the M1 at ~40mph. Some people were pushing them along to go faster, but no one chanced an overtake?

AFAIK they can't prosucute for anything, but they can report you????

no they dont, and yes they can. whether it will come to anything is something else - police witness statements and opinion have weight in law, more than joe public or a highways agency employee.

Highways Agency Traffic Officers have no rights to pull you over. They are however allowed to stop traffic and divert as required. Should you choose to overtake a rolling road block then you would be reported to the police for that offence for the consideration of prosecution.

The roadblock is there for a reason.

So you can test the top speed of your bike as the roadblock clears and you're faced with miles of empty motorway? Good on them. Before that I thought they were just nob heads pretending to be police. I didn't realise they were helping us.

They are still nob heads pretending to be police but I didn't say that. They have there uses. No longer do I clear debris from the hard shoulder. They do it now....

WTF is a Roling Road Block?

If they are travelling below the National Limit then pass on the right.

If travelling at the National Limit then why do you want to pass?

Did I have to think about that there??

If you want to break the speed limit then it's up to you and you will be fair game and stupid as you may have been warned.

Would not stop me coz they have a blue light on the roof and a badge.

You were never permited to.

Motorways are motorways not Carparks.
Correct procedure is to notify the authorities about the debris.

By stopping on a 'Clearway' your own action could cause an accident which is lame but troo.

But I welcome your public spiritedness. Jist get your arse up to the bar and get the drinks in instead then. Laughing

It is where a police or HA vehicle slows to a reduced speed and stops other traffic from passing. HA vehicles have posh "DO NOT PASS" signs that pop up in the rear window. Roling road blocks are instead of closing lanes. It gives officers at the scene of an accidents time to move the vehicles with no traffic passing.

Most of the time they seem to be the debris on the hard shoulder. Flashing lights and standing around with their hands in their pockets.

Should see the number that were standing around a broken down coach on the M6 last year. None seemed to be doing anything except making the congestion worse by being there.

All the best

Walloper, thanks for your concern but I dont stop on the motorways for the fun of it!

I've seen them on the M6 alot. Well none to be seen around a burning car but two around a bit of skirt waiting for the RAC.

Their vehicles should be bright pink then they may realise who or what they are................... mobile traffic wardens.

You did not say you were 'Traffic' RatBlack. Therefor you must be the secret police then. Laughing

By the way, any advice on when the cooncil will come roon an' luft oor Green wheely bin fur us officer?

So, to get back to the thread, a rolling road block is rather self illustrating then.

A van with a big DO NOT PASS on it would lead me to think DO NOT PASS...

So why fly into a dangerous situation.

Or maybe us Heathen Sheep Shaggin' Scots are marginally better Law Abiding Citizens after all. Razz

I've seen them once on M6 headed south, was right behind them in the car in the nearside lane when along the hard shoulder an Audi came rocketting along with 3 police cars (one unmarked at front which i figure was the first to spot him) giving chase. Later on same audi and 1 police car were on the hard shoulder so i figure they got him.

At the time, when i was done crapping myself at how close it felt to me when he got past, i was thankful whoever was driving the audi wasnt weaving in and out of traffic (which was totally solid in all 3 lanes behind).

So yeah, might be an annoyance but have their uses Thumbs Up

Saw one of those Rolling blocks on the M1 next to Meadowhell in Sheffield last Thursday. The South Yorkshire Police had pulled 4 of those Volvo Estates onto the motorway. One in each lane inc. Hard shoulder. I was about 4 rows back from all this thinking to myself I was about to waste a few hours of my life.

Anyway about a minute later a tatty blue Volkswagen, maybe a golf or a polo (not sure) came bombing past in the hard shoulder... Closely pursued by two more Police Volvo's. God knows if the idiot hadn't watched Police Camera Action, but needless to say they were fucked... He got to the row of police cars and had nowhere to go, then they boxed him in and that was it, the road block pulled aside and all hell broke loose... It was if I was on the grid surrounded by race drivers and the lights had just gone out. I got away quickly, out-accelerating everything around me, in the way a motorbike can do. I was making excellent progress and yet cars were bombing past me which must have been pushing 120. Admittedly I'd just seen half the local traffic force occupied a mile behind me, but I guess I'm a coward who values his license to go too wild. Don't think I've ever seen that much really fast traffic in one go.

Made a refreshing change to the normal traffic on weekday afternoons on the M1!
