I've been looking for a mini bike for offroad foolishness, most seem to be powered by a lifan lump...

what are parts like to get hold of?
any tales of woe, I've read about speedos being ambitious and other stuff, but not alot about the engines?

anyone care to share their experiences/words or warning/ appreciation of the lifans?

thanks

I heard that they are made of chocolate and are really hard to get parts for.

Apparently they copy Japanese bikes, but use substandard materials and processes, meaning that the bikes are of extremely poor quality.

I've heard stories of frames snapping, sprockets wearing smooth in weeks, and engines lunching themselves.

My advice would be: Avoid!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Every pit bike for uner £500 seems to be lifan powered..

the only forums I can find are full of 14 year olds who cant spell..
I imagine they cant look after their bikes either... and theirs havn't broken.. yet

just a 12bhp 140cc tiny bike is really appealing...

The pit bike engines are based on the Honda cub, with quite a lot of parts interchangeable, I believe.

iv owned a lifan bike for over 6 months now and not had any major issues. parts aren't to hard to get a hang of. this link https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LIFAN-LF-125-30-SPORTS-RACE-REPLICA-MOTORBIKE-125CC_W0QQitemZ110117810600QQihZ001QQcategoryZ424QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem has a map showing some dealerships that will repair and stock spare parts for lifans. also https://www.llexeter.com/ishop/1082/shopscr51.html. ebay has some bits and bobs, but isn't very useful. i just this morning came off my bike and had it sent to the dealership in Newport. i should have it back in just 2 or 3 days.

It sounds like the one I was looking at on ebay just for having a bit of a laugh in the fields behind me, for £400 i doubt you could go far wrong.
