Thats always the thing thats in the back of my mind I suppose when I browse for BSAs and the like.
If the bike is complete beforehand, then bike should be fine, if you buy a basket case or resto job then anything could be wrong. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Just a quick up date , I now have the gearbox back in, next the rear shockers will be built up and put back on, then the wheels will go back on so that I have a rolling chassis, then the head light, primary drive case , wiring , mudguards putting back on, oil lines , petrol lines, brakes, just little job's really.
I will post some more pics soon. |

Did I hear some one say swanky new chrome parts !
I managed to get my self some new rear shocker shroud things, don't they look nice ?!? So they should do for the money (£56 ! But that was cheaper than getting the old ones re chromed ) I was not prepared to put the old ones back on in the state that they were in so it was worth the money for the new ones.
Pics of new ones , and then new ones next to old ones:

You have no idea how lucky you are.
Clutch and primary on that bike is what I'd call a 'side of the road' job. Hell man, it's a pre-unit engine, it's going to take what, 20 minutes and use two spanners (and admittedly about three tubes of silicone RTV if you want it to stay oil-tight)?
Just interested, you gonna ride this bike or is it going to be a 'trailer queen'? Just seems a lot of effort on the chromework there (I like to see old bikes with a bit of patina on them).
Please say you're going to ride it (or have it rideable), you can then take it to shows and make a point of riding it past all the highly polished gold-stars with no engine internals as they're being pushed off the field. I totally hate the "Oh I couldn't possibly ride it, it's a classic you know." mentality some people have.
My mate Rick does that, he runs a 1920's BSA that's totally original. It's great to watch the faces on the other exhibitors when he puts his lid on, fires it up and rides off home at the end of the day. They're all still busy throwing duvet covers over theirs and loading them onto trailers. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
